OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
BackgroundOver the last 8 years, UNESCO has pursued efforts to disseminate Futures Literacy worldwide, developing a Global Futures Literacy Network around almost 20 UNESCO Chairs in Anticipatory Studies, Futures Studies and Futures Literacy. Invited to lead the UN HLCP’s Foresight Network, UNESCO works together with governments, civil society and the private sector around a series of projects, on climate change and long-termism in Europe, on decolonized futures in Africa, design and intergenerational dialogue in Asia or resilience in the Americas. The last Futures Literacy Summit, which gathered 9000+ people online in December 2020, was a milestone to express UNESCO partners’ commitment to the development and diffusion of Futures Literacy as an essential competency for the realization of humanity’s aspirations in the 21st Century.

PurposeTo review the development of Futures Literacy processes in Africa and coordinate the development of a catalogue of Futures Literacy processes.

Work Assignment
Under the supervision of the Head of Futures Literacy, the Consultant is expected to:
Contribute to, in the full range of organisational and logistical tasks  in francophone Africa and Europe, associated with:
Connecting on-going projects such as the Imagining Africa’s Futures (IAF) with initiatives of the Global Futures Literacy Network;The design and implementation of Futures Literacy Laboratories (FLLs) in Latin America, Africa, and Asia, especially China, Costa Rica, Ivory Coast, and Kenya, and together with field offices;The coordination of works around Futures Literacy conceptual issues, especially around translation efforts pursued by the network;The drafting of a catalogue of tools in a capability-based approach to learning and policy-making.Collaborate on any tasks and items with the Futures Literacy team and colleagues at HQ and field offices as a whole on their respective tasks to disseminate Futures Literacy at UNESCO and the UN system.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSAt least 2 years of work experience in project management, communication, or in the design and facilitation of participatory processes; Prior knowledge of Futures Literacy/futures design principles;Strong analytical skills;Excellent French proficiency (written and oral) and good/fair command of English.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONSGood knowledge of Spanish, an African language, or Arabic is appreciated;Participation in a Futures Literacy Lab is appreciated;Working experience with an International Organization or UN system;Prior knowledge of UNESCO’s administrative procedures is a plus.
