Duration of contract: One (1) year with the possibility of an extension subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funds.
OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POSTUnder the overall supervision of the Director of the Division of Ecological and Earth Sciences (SC/EES), and the direct supervision of the Chief of Section of Research and Policy: Ecology and Biodiversity, the Associate Project Officer will support the implementation development, monitoring and evaluation of a communication plan strategy for UNESCO’s network of sites under the Multi-Partner Trust Fund for biodiversity and ecological restoration of key eco-systems, in line with the UNESCO strategy on biodiversity.
In particular, the incumbent will perform the following tasks:
Support the communication needs of the Fund through his/her work in:Developing a Communication Strategy for the Fund’s activities and initiatives, as well as fundraising efforts.Provision and maintenance of UNESCO designated sites outreach channels, with a particular focus on the connection of science and policy for the general public and donors.Work in partnership with the communications officers of UNESCO Headquarters and Field Offices.Provide support to the Chief of Section in relevant interagency communications forums.Ensure the Fund’s initiatives are prominently highlighted in different media as well as specialized conferences and workshops.Actively work in mobilizing resources and supporting partnerships to enhance the visibility of the Fund.-For detailed information, please consult the UNESCO Competency Framework.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EducationAdvanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Communication or a relevant related field.

Work Experience Minimum 2 years of professional experience in communication or management of communication on development programmes, of which preferably 1 year acquired at international level.
Skills  and competenciesStrong analytical, drafting and editing skills in English and another UNESCO official language.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a multicultural environment with sensitivity to diversity.Ability to adapt communication styles to suit different audiences.Ability to articulate socio-environmental issues in a journalistic language.Strong cross-cultural and interpersonal skills.Proven experience in website management and communication on social media.Excellent computer skills.Experience in video editing, including strong knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro.
LanguagesExcellent knowledge (written and spoken) of English or French and good knowledge of the other.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
EducationSpecialisation in Social Sciences and/or International Relations.

Work ExperienceExperience within an international organisation or the United Nations system dealing with technical or environmental co-operation.
Experience in fundraising or related activities.
Skills/CompetenciesFamiliarity with the United Nations system and procedures.

LanguagesKnowledge of other UNESCO official languages (Arabic, Chinese, French Spanish and Russian).
