UNDP Georgia has announced Small Grants Scheme on Local Economic Development Initiatives for Civil Society Organizations.

The Small Grants Scheme has been launched to enable communities to more flexibly and holistically design and develop funding proposals based on the priorities they have identified within their municipality and the overall outcomes they aim to achieve.

The objective of the Small Grants Scheme is to help eligible Civil Society Organizations deliver targeted projects to support local economic development in municipalities located in the Guria, Kvemo Kartli, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti and Racha-Lechkhumi-Kvemo Svaneti regions. The Small Grants Scheme has been designed to empower communities and Civil Society Organizations to tackle poverty, inequality and economic disadvantage on their own terms.

The Small Grants Scheme will support Civil Society Organisations in target municipalities to develop and deliver sustainable local solutions that:

  • Support initiatives addressing local priorities and needs, and foster cooperation among civil society groups, municipal authorities, business associations and private sector entities to improve transparency and accountability, the quality of public policies and programs, and introduction and delivery of public services, in support of local economic and business development;
  • Enhancing the resilience of municipalities and communities to manage current and future economic challenges and changes;
  • Promote lasting partnerships among civil society and media organisations, community groups, and private sector representatives to increase participation in local economic development policy making and implementation;
  • Build capacity of local communities and municipalities to deliver tangible positive change for livelihood development using innovative solutions and inclusive participatory mechanisms and to diversify and strengthen local economies.

Funding Information

  • Maximum amount allocated for each grant is USD 60,000 and USD 80,000 for coalitions.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this call, an applicant must:

  • Be a non-profit organization (civil society organization, think tanks, educational institution, including public university, training institution, etc.);
  • Have at least four years of proven experience in project management, LED facilitation, citizen participation, policy analysis, human resource development, service delivery and/or similar field;
  • Have worked in the target regions/municipalities;
  • Have experience of managing projects with similar budget size within the last two years;
  • Be registered in accordance with the legal requirements of the Government of Georgia and provide organization’s statute along with the debt certificate.

Selection Criteria

  • Relevance of the proposal with the goals and conditions of the call;
  • Presenting concrete ways directly supporting local economic development, income generation and employment;
  • Effectiveness of the project methodology and the strategy, a clear linkage between project activities and outcomes;
  • Sustainability of the project outcomes;
  • The project enhances gender equality and encourages inclusion of marginalized and vulnerable groups;
  • Whether or not the project is realistic, cost-efficient, and technically feasible.
