The work schedule for this position is: Full Time (40 hours per week)
DUTIES: The Press and Media Coordinator works under the direct supervision of the Strategic Content Coordination and
Press and Media Specialist (SCCS) and has no supervisory responsibilities. Is the Mission’s lead LES on Hausa and French
language press and media engagement. Monitors Nigerien press and media coverage of issues of importance to the U.S.
Identifies and advises PD Section and Mission leadership on strategies for promoting accurate, balanced Nigerien press and
media coverage of U.S. foreign policy and American interests; correcting misinformation; and countering disinformation, with
specific emphasis on Hausa language media outlets and audiences. Builds productive relationships with press and media
professionals in person and online. Serves as Mission Hausa language spokesperson and including drafting and translation
of strategic content for Hausa language media outlets.
EDUCATION: University degree in Journalism, Communications, International Relations, Political Science, or Economics is
required.
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of four years of progressively responsible experience in a media outlet, think tank, university,
NGO, international organization, foreign embassy, government office or corporation is required, with responsibility for public
relations, public affairs, journalism, communications, marketing, managing public relations, outreach events, press conferences,
working with Hausa language media outlets, and other media interactions in Hausa as significant parts of the job.
LANGUAGE: Level 3 (Good working knowledge) Speaking/Reading/Writing English is required. Level 4 (Fluent)
Speaking/Reading/Writing French is required. Level 4 (Fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing Hausa is required. this may be
tested.
