U.S. Department of State announces Countering Trafficking in Persons in Ukraine

The U.S. Embassy Kyiv, through the Public Affairs Section’s DemocracySmall Grants Program and Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) is inviting Ukrainian NGOs with an aim to preventing and combating trafficking in persons (CTIP) in Ukraine, prosecuting and punishing traffickers, and protecting trafficking victims.

Through this competition, the Democracy Small Grants Program and INL seek innovative approaches to supporting anti-trafficking initiatives, including raising public awareness, protecting vulnerable groups, supporting victims, advocating local governments to increase their involvement with combatting human trafficking, strengthening cooperation between the public and the legal system, and educating the public, law enforcement, and other stakeholders about anti-trafficking legislation.

Themes

Project proposals must clearly promote one or more of the following themes:

  • Civil society development
  • Rule of law and legal reform
  • Transparency in government
  • Public education and advocacy
  • Conflict resolution and encouraging peaceful solutions to conflict
  • Human rights, including those for minorities, LGBTI, people with disabilities and women
  • Civic education
  • Electoral system support
  • Anti-trafficking (CTIP)

Funding Information

The maximum funding available for a single grant is $50,000 U.S. dollars (USD), they anticipate most awards will be in the range of $10,000 – $24,000 USD.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Officially registered Ukrainian non-government organizations are eligible to apply.
  • Eligible organizations and their members may not represent any political party, or serve as appointed or elected public officials at the time of application or for the duration of the grant. Non-governmental organizations, which belong to and/or are financially supported by any political party, are not eligible to apply.
  • Application to, or receipt of funds from this thematic competition, does not disqualify any organization from competing for other U.S. government funds, including the Democracy Small Grants Program general competition or other thematic competitions, or INL grants and contracts.
