The MedFund launches Call for Interest for Marine Protected Areas

The MedFund launches a call for interest (CFI) dedicated to support Mediterranean marine protected areas (MPA’s) managers and co-managers by funding day to day management costs of these protected areas.

In the framework of a new joint The MedFund/ MedPAN GEF project entitled “Build back a blue and stronger Mediterranean”, this restricted call for interest is only addressed to MPAs from the following countries: Lebanon, Montenegro, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, and Albania.

The MedFund is an environmental trust fund whose objective is to contribute to the sustainable financing of effective management of marine protected areas (MPAs) in the Mediterranean, through the mobilization of public and private stakeholders.

The Fund provides financial support through grants to management and co-management organizations of Mediterranean MPAs (national authorities and civil society organizations).

Benefits
The MedFund benefits from the financial support of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), Le French Fund for the Global Environment (FFEM), French Development Agency (AFD), the Government of Monaco and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.
Funding Information
The funding request must not exceed an average annual amount of €75,000.
Eligibility Criteria
For your application to be considered, it must meet the eligibility criteria:

Eligible countries: Lebanon, Montenegro, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco and Albania
It should be noted that this call is not open to MedFund grants. MPAs that are currently funded by The MedFund are not eligible.
Must be officially designated MPA or under designation process;
Must have a management document or management plan;
Must have some management structure and management team in place.
Ineligibility
The following activities are not eligible for funding from The MedFund:

Investments and new infrastructure works;
The purchase of major equipment, except in exceptional cases, if it is essential for the launch or continuation of the project and cannot be financed otherwise. For any request for equipment (vehicles, boats and others) exceeding €10,000, a specific motion of The MedFund’s Board of Directors will be required;
Costs associated with research.
