Pay Band: Teacher Coordinator (Locally engaged contract with enhanced benefits). Enhanced benefits applicable where post holder moves from base country. / Remuneration per Annum: XOF 18,347,364 (Unaccompanied). / Location: Dakar, Senegal/ Contract: 12 months initially Closing date: 21 April 2019 at (23:59 UK Time) / Role is open to applicants globally. British Council assists with VISA and relocation allowance.

The British Council in Senegal has an exciting & unique opportunity for a qualified Young Learner Teacher Coordinator. This position is ideal for teachers looking to gain experience at international level by supporting the growth of the existing Young Learner business at Secondary level and the launch of programmes at Primary level.

The role holder will be based in Dakar, Senegal.

The post holder will:

• Ensure the provision of an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for our young learner programmes in accordance with the aims of the Teaching Centre and regional strategy.
• Raise standards of student attainment and achievement, to monitor and support student progress and to develop and enhance the teaching practice of others.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with parents

The Opportunity:

To support the growth of the existing Young Learner business at Secondary level and the launch of programmes at Primary level. To ensure the provision of an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for our young learner programmes in accordance with the aims of the Teaching Centre and regional strategy. To raise standards of student attainment and achievement, to monitor and support student progress and to develop and enhance the teaching practice of others. To build and maintain effective relationships with parents.

• The role holder will formulate aims and objectives in line with all Senegal and Regional strategy for our Young Learner activities which has coherence and relevance to the needs of the students and parents and to the aims, objectives and strategic plans of the Centre.

• Ensure our Young Learner offer adheres to global compliance agendas – TQS etc.

• Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people. Act as or deputise for Child Protection focal point and ensure Child Protection policy is understood and the related practices implemented locally.

Role Requirements:

• High proficiency in English i.e. full mastery of English across all 4 skills equivalent to user (CEFR C2) IELTS Band 8/9 in each of 4 sections of the academic module

• Undergraduate degree

• DELTA or Trinity Diploma in TESOL/Young Learners accredited by the QCA at level 6/7 of the National Qualifications Framework.

Sector Expertise in Young Learner Programme Teaching and Management

Solid knowledge of TEYL through substantial work experience in the field and relevant Young Learner qualification

Clear evidence of experience of safe planning, organisation and delivery of Young Learner programmes.

Evidence of continual building of professional TEYL profile through keeping abreast of on-going developments in the field.

3 to 4 years relevant experience post professional Young Learner qualification.

Sector expertise in Young Learner programme teaching and management.
