Organizational Setting
FAO’s Sub Regional Office for Southern Africa (SFS) is responsible for developing, promoting, overseeing and implementing agreed strategies for addressing sub-regional food, agriculture and rural development priorities. It develops and maintains relations with sub-region-wide institutions including Regional Economic Communities (RECs). It assists the FAO Representations (FAORs) in the sub-region with addressing sub-regional food security, agriculture and rural development issues at country level. The Subregional Office is a subsidiary of FAO’s Regional Office for Southern Africa.
 Reporting Lines
The Agro-food Systems Investment Consultant reports to the Sub-regional Coordinator and maintains regular contact with FAO headquarters in Rome for functional guidance on matters relating to policy and governance support in the food and agricultural sectors.
Technical Focus
Supporting the Agriculture Investment Plans, AGRINVEST and resource mobilization at sub regional and country level.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Work with SADC Secretariat and Member States to prepare a Sub-Regional Programing Framework (SRPF) to be duly adopted and presented during the Africa Regional Conference in March 2020.
Prepare a joint plan for SFS-SADC to be duly adopted.
Support the SADC Secretariat to advance the implementation of the regional agriculture investment plan and the regional agriculture development fund.
Support AGRINVEST Initiatives in Zimbabwe, Eswatini, Angola and other Countries.
Develop Commodity Sector Development Agreement
Supervise the preparation of CAADP Investment Plans in Zambia, Eswatini, Namibia, Zimbabwe and other countries.
Provide technical assistance to Member States on policies related to agriculture and food security.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
 Minimum Requirements
Advanced university degree in political sciences, agricultural economics, development economics, rural sociology, food security, nutrition, sustainable agriculture (including livestock, forestry and fisheries), geography, or related field.
Twelve years of relevant experience in policy advice and analysis relating to agribusiness, agriculture finance, value chain development and overall food and nutrition security.
At least 3 years of experience in working with regional economic communities and building partnerships.
Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other two or Russian, Arabic or Chinese.
