February 2020 (open to discussion)

THE ROLE

There has never been a better time to get involved with Street Child. We are one of the most ambitious and exciting international development charities around and this is your chance to be part of a dynamic and growing organisation.

In 2008, Street Child was launched in Sierra Leone and since then our local team has grown to over 400 social workers, educators, finance officers, business mentors, and Directors. As a Street Child volunteer, you will be working closely alongside these teams supporting their work where your skills are most needed.

As a Communications Volunteer, you will be capturing stories from the field to create compelling content for the Street Child portfolio that may be published across both our own as well as national media platforms. Additionally, this will include documenting the progress of our projects. You will also be developing a communication strategy and content for our local partners to help train them on case study writing and photography. Working alongside the local team, you will be able to create your own narrative but you will also be expected to remain flexible in order to perform tasks according to the project needs at the time of your placement.

RESPONSIBILITIES

● Collecting and consolidating data from the field in the form of case studies, reports and written/visual
content for marketing purposes
● Building the visual media library, including photographs and video footage
● Conduct relevant research and produce a report containing a communication strategy for Street
Child’s projects and local partners
● Providing training to local partners on case study writing, photography, and marketing
● Writing country and programme specific updates and content for the Street child website
● Liaising with Street Child UK and in-country teams on supply and demand of content for marketing
purposes but also to feed content back to valuable donors about their sponsored projects
● Helping Street Child’s local partners will website content and proposal writing

Salary

The volunteer placement is for a duration of 4 to 12 weeks depending on the applicant’s availability.

Successful applicants must be prepared to live and work in very basic conditions. Once in-country, there is a fixed daily cost required to cover your accommodation, as well as any additional costs required for travel around the country and into the field. A more detailed breakdown of costs and expenses will be provided for those applicants selected for an interview.

A fundraising commitment for the charity is required of all successful applicants, for which support will be provided by Street Child UK. Successful applicants will be assigned a fundraising mentor who is on hand to answer any questions or queries you may have as well as providing ideas, advice and support to help you reach your target. For those who surpass their targets, there is the opportunity to have the costs of your flights covered.

Furthermore, this placement is subject to pre-placement checks in line with Street Child’s Safeguarding and Child Protection Policies.
