SNV, in response to the 1974 drought in northern Ethiopia, started working on the Food for Work Program, called Kobbo-Lalibella Road Construction project – which involved 6000 farmers. Successfully completing the project, SNV started implementing other rural development projects focusing, particularly, on capacity development of key stakeholders in different sectors. Currently, we are working in Agriculture, Energy and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene sectors to making a lasting difference in the lives of people. SNV strives to ensure that women, men and youth balance benefits from their efforts. Presently, SNV Ethiopia is implementing over 14 projects in more than 369 woredas; Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa City Administrations, Afar, Amhara, Benishangul Gumuz, Gambella, Oromia, Somali, Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples Region, and Tigray National Regional States.

Job Description
Project Background
Veggies 4 Planet & People is a four year project (Aug 2020 to July 2024) funded by the IKEA Foundation and implemented in Oromia by SNV-Ethiopia in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture. The overall objective of the project is to create jobs and income, particularly for youth and women, in the vegetable sector in Ethiopia and Kenya, and to improve environmental and human health through safe production of vegetables.

Terms of Appointment
This is a full-time position with the successful candidate being contracted on a 2 year.  SNV is a global organization committed to bringing different people, ideas, and perspectives together.
Qualifications
Education
A minimum of BSc degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field (horticulture, plant science, agricultural economics, agricultural extension, etc.)
Solid knowledge on horticultural production; Good knowledge on regenerative agriculture is important.
Sound knowledge of horticulture extension system
Familiar with women and youth concepts and mainstreaming
Work experience
 A minimum of 5 years of work experience in agricultural/horticultural extension service and value chain development
Broad experience in capacity building, extension service.
Experience in working on women and youth employment is an advantage.
Necessary Skill
Energetic and motivating attitude
Pragmatic and solution orientated approach
Team player with networking abilities.
Fluent in English (official working language of SNV) and Afaan Oromo.
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Computer skill
Motorbike license
