SNV is an open and learning organization that focuses on improving the lives of Ethiopian Need people through best practices in value chain, market, and youth and gender. Through its work in the three sectors, SNV in Ethiopia supports the development of a number of value chains and commodities to improve the Livelihoods. This takes a value chain and market development approach, with special focus on improving access to sustainable markets for smallholder farmers, youths, urban development and by developing business-to-business relations and improving business development services.

Job Description
Overview of the project.
Horti-LIFE II  is a 4 years project (2019-2023) funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands (EKN), implemented by SNV-Ethiopia in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources. The aim of the program is to increase export and the food and nutritional security levels by supporting smallholder farmers in the horticulture sector. The project has five components:
Enhancement of Productivity and crop diversity of semi-commercial farmers and Home Gardens.
Improvement to service provision and input supply for small farmers via grants to Service Providers, support for the seed multiplication system and enhancing loan availability for farmers from MFIs.
Facilitating Food Safety through support for IMP, establishment of Spray Service Providers, in cooperation with Crop Life and the Ministry of Agriculture.
Enhancement and facilitation of practical education and training in ATVET Colleges and Universities.
Raising Consumer awareness of the Nutritional value of Fruits and vegetables.
Summary of the position
The project works with nine A-TVETS and four universities to make their education more practical. This refers to establishing student field plots at A-TVETs and capacity building of staff of both A-TVETs and Horticultural departments at Universities, development of course materials and enhancement of course delivery methods. The project also has a with limited budget to procure teaching materials and essential tools and equipment to support project related practical training in the selected Institutes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Planning
Prepare, (in consultation with the international A-TVET expert and the academic expert monthly plans) and join the monthly and quarterly planning meetings.
 Plan and communicate the support needed from SNV support office in time
Submit monthly and quarterly reports
Plan and facilitate, as needed, the procurement of all necessary tools and equipment timely
Coordinate all activities with the A-TVETS (in consultation with the national team and regional managers)
2. Implementation
Implement the responsibilities mentioned above.
Document all activities.
3. Financial & Administrative Management
Provides input for the annual project budgets.
Provide liquidity requests to the financial officer.
Make follow up and report on the efficient and appropriate utilization of materials provided by the project.
Provide support for the Finance Department to facilitate payment of DSA for workshop participants.
4. Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting
Provide support for the Finance Department to facilitate payment of DSA for workshop participants
 Monthly, quarterly and annual progress reports.
 Contribute the internal monitoring system.
Regularly communicate with the team leader, the international experts, and other team members (especially the cluster coordinators) about project progress and challenges.
5. Networking, Learning & Representation
Establishes good working relationship with the nine educational institutes and organisations like the A-TVET department in MoANR and with other projects working on agricultural education (e.g. ATTSVE; SMIS, BFA)
Liaises and communicates with all partners and stakeholders for sharing of lessons, ideas and creation of complimentary and to avoid conflict of interest and overlap of project activities.

Qualifications
Education
A relevant BSc or MSc degree (or equivalent). This means horticulture, plant science, agricultural extension, agricultural education etc.
Solid knowledge of horticultural production processes in Ethiopia.
Good insight in smallholder horticultural development.
Familiar with gender concepts and mainstreaming.
Work Experience
A minimum of 15 years of work experience in agricultural education with a focus on practical training at diploma level (A-TVETs.
Broad experience in capacity building and training in agriculture.
Good network among the organisations relevant for horticulture education as well as network agencies and stakeholder that support the sector.

 Energetic and motivating attitude.
 Pragmatic and solution orientated approach
Willingness to travel (Tigray, Amhara, SNNPR, Oromia) and to work during weekends.
Team player with networking abilities.
Fluent in English and having different local languages is advantages.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Computer skills

Terms of Appointment
This is a full-time position with the successful candidate being contracted on a 3 years contract with the possibility of renewal.
