Founded in 1977, Seventh Generation Fund for Indigenous Peoples emerged from Indigenous communities during the cultural, social, and political renaissance era of the ’60s and ’70s.

Seventh Generation Fund focuses on cultural revitalization, leadership development, tribal sovereignty, and culturally appropriate economic development.

The primary purpose of their work is dedicated to Indigenous Peoples’ self-determination and the sovereignty of Native nations.

Organizations that wish to apply must meet the following requirements:

Be a non-profit organization with 501(3)(c) tax-exemption status. Community based projects that do not have non-profit status are welcome to contact SGF regarding Affiliate Program / Fiscal Administration for consideration of the Affiliate Program.
Engagement, Leadership & Decision-making – 80% or more Indigenous Board of Directors / Leadership, with an Indigenous Executive Director (must be 80% or more Indigenous Women Board of Directors, with an Indigenous Woman Executive Director, to apply to Thriving Women).
Emerge directly from the community and are led by the Indigenous Peoples impacted by the project.
Be in good standing with the Seventh Generation Fund.
They are unable to support: Individuals, non-Native organizations, religious missionizing efforts, purchase of vehicles, heavy equipment, capital campaigns, or scholarship funds.
