The Opportunity
 Save the Children with support from the Embassy of Ireland in Malawi, will be implementing Pathways for Strengthened Resilience and Graduation among Social Cash Transfer Programme Beneficiaries in Ntcheu District. The Gender and Communication Officer will be responsible for gender integration, media communication, advocacy and documentation.  S/he will work will report to the Project Manager but work closely with national level staff to ensure that gender equity principles are incorporated into all policies and activities. S/he will plan, implement and follow up on gender-related activities and provide support to counterpart staff, partners and grantees on mainstreaming gender in their programs and activities, including design and implementation of training on gender-related topics.
S/he role will support the P4R team in delivering vital internal and external information and communication products in that enable excellent communications activities for Save the Children. The post-holder will be support the delivery of a comprehensive media and communications plan, ensuring smooth flow of information, good relations with visiting donors and the media (including social media), and high-quality case studies to showcase Save the Children’s work. Additionally, the Officer will work closely with the programmes teams to ensure that external messaging, branding and image is consistent.
Requirements
In order to be successful you will bring/have:
Bachelor’s degree in Gender studies, Media for development, Journalism, Social Sciences or related field. Those with Master degree will have an added advantage.
At least 3 years of relevant experience doing social behaviour change communication work in gender related projects
Good reporting and writing skills is a must
Good computer skills is required
Fluency in both English and Chichewa (spoken and written) is required
Strong facilitation skills and overall interpersonal skills
Experience with disaster risk reduction programming
Experience creating engaging communications materials showcasing changes in gender equality
Commitment to Save the Children values and Child Safeguarding
Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles
Qualification in Media for Development, Journalism, development studies, or other relevant discipline
Substantial experience of working and living in Malawi, ideally with professional experience in Malawi
Demonstrable understanding of gender equality programming or Social Behaviour Change communication.
Experience implementing gender transformative activities
Ability to produce media products: videos, newsletters, and maintaining social media platform such Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube
Ability to coach and mentor multi-sectoral partners
Humanitarian context experience highly preferred.
Motor cycle riding experience with a valid riding licence.
Self-starter
