Pride Foundation Australia is seeking expressions of interest to develop a set of online training resources on inclusive practice with LGBTIQA+ refugees and people seeking asylum in Australia.

They are seeking an individual, company or consortium of experienced trainers in the area. The team must demonstrate an existing working relationship with LGBTIQA+ people with refugee and/or asylum seeking experience.

The project will be conducted within a 12-month period, with a total payment of $20,000.

Training Resources Principles

The resources should:

Use a human rights framework
Be co-designed with people with lived experience and with LGBTIQA+-specific services
Include intersectionality to ensure understanding of multiple marginalisation
Have a capacity building focus
Be freely accessible nationally via an online platform

Existing generic resources may be incorporated that provide background to LGBTIQ context and inclusive practice. However, new content must be developed that is specific to refugees and people seeking asylum including:

Definitions, language, terminology LGBTIQA+, including diverse cultural perspectives
The policy and legislative environment -include reference to pending Equality Australia document on case law regarding LGBTIQ asylum claims in Australia.
Cultural environments and debates within queer and mainstream communities
Lived experiences
Digital story telling resources that have been developed and/or are in development should be included (Tina Dixson Queer Sisterhood resources, and Renee Dixson archive of stories –including forced displacement)
Sensitivity about confidentiality
Need for community connection
Proving claims for protection
The immigration interview experience
Inclusive practice tips
Audit of the service (specific to specific service types)
Creating a safe space
Building LGBTIQA+ specific referral networks
Working effectively with interpreters
Ideas for advocacy
Specific issues for each service type selected.
Online learning platform

(Ad) How to raise funds? Where can I find a list of donors for my area of work? How to write proposals? How can I submit a grant request to USAID, the European Commission or the Gates Foundation? How can I use Social Media to promote my work? We have developed powerful resources in the form of Ebook and Articles covering all this information and more. Learn more.

The project must include development of a website that will host the training resources and will be linked with Pride Foundation Australia website. Priority will be given to proposals that include innovative training methods including the use of video and graphics, animation and interactivity.
