This is a newly created, highly visible and influential role offering an exciting opportunity to support the delivery of Plan International’s strategic ambition to transform the lives of 100 million girls.

The Role :
The Director of Gender Transformative Policy and Practice (GTP&P) leads the global GTP&P function and its associated specialist areas; Protection from Violence, Early Childhood Development, Skills and Opportunities for Youth Economic Empowerment, SRHR and Inclusive Quality Education worldwide.
The role provides strategic leadership and expertise across all Plan International’s thematic and cross-cutting work in policy, advocacy, and practice, to tackle the root causes of discrimination against girls, exclusion, and vulnerability globally, in both humanitarian and development contexts. You will also:

Lead and direct the specialist hub priorities to deliver Plan International’s agenda and values
Drive the scale-up of effective and evidence-based programme and influencing approaches
Promote engagement with donors to mobilise expertise, partnerships and resources
Contribute to setting the global research agenda and support on specific pieces of research
Build and manage relationships with key external/internal partners
Ensure the embedding of global policies for Safeguarding Children and Young People and Gender Equality and Inclusion

Skills Required :
You will be a transformational leader, with country-level international development and humanitarian programming management expertise and proven regional influencing capabilities.
You will have led large multi-disciplinary international teams, including in fragile contexts, and have a demonstrated understanding of NGO structures, the girls’ and women’s equality movement, and the UN human rights and humanitarian system. Naturally you have deep knowledge of human rights, child rights, girls’ rights, inclusion and gender equality. In addition, your experience includes:

– Leadership of programme and influence design, M&E, learning and knowledge management
– Excellent skills in strategic leadership, collaboration, and teamwork
– Strong people management skills, including leading leaders
– Sound diplomatic, networking skills, and experience in the effective use of soft power
– Ability to work to a high standard and manage stress effectively whilst prioritising multiple tasks
– Excellent communication, representational and inter-personal skills
– Proven advocacy and resource mobilisation skills and experience
– Profound understanding of how developmental and humanitarian issues impact gender equality
– Demonstrated competencies in MERL and the use of evidence

Please note:
Location: home-based, ideally in a Regional Hub such as Kenya, Senegal, Thailand, or in the Americas and Caribbean. Other locations closest to impact points may also be considered.
You must have full local work rights for the country you apply to be based in.
Fluent English required with French and/or Spanish language skills desirable
