Do you have Post-Graduate Degree in International Development, Sustainable Livelihoods, Humanitarian / Programme Management or any other area that can bring an added value to the job?

Do you have relevant programme management experience of at least 10 years, preferably in an international NGO/operational UN agency/equivalent?

Do you have a minimum of 7 years of experience in the field leading development and humanitarian programmes in one or more challenging contexts in developing countries?

The Role

The Programs Director is responsible for the development, design and management/monitoring of the country programmes and for ensuring the Oxfam in Ethiopia programme responds to current development trends related in the country. Ensure the proper implantation of programme strategies and plans maintaining the coordination, linkages and synergies within and between the long term and humanitarian programmes as well as contributes to linking these programmes with influencing and ensuring programme quality.

 

What we are looking for

 

As Programs Director, you are expected to have good understanding of development issues in general with significant knowledge and experience in one of the fields of: (a) sustainable livelihoods and resilience, b) gender and development; comprehensive knowledge and experience of development programs, humanitarian response and advocacy and campaigning; knowledge of capacity building, learning and development activities and how to create a learning and sharing environment with a strong knowledge management basis; commitment to and knowledge of creating a partner-led operational environment, with an ability to create an internal Oxfam approach that is focused on developing and supporting partner organizations to achieve direct impact and results relating to Oxfam’s objectives; and knowledge of, and experience in working with donors

 

You will have good managerial skills to co-ordinate the Ethiopia program team to deliver on the OCS objectives; excellent personal communication skills, in written and verbal English, with high impact influencing and persuasive skills and able to explain complex technical/legal issues, and build a considered analysis of taking different approaches; leadership, management, negotiation and coordination skills (of people and projects) in a complex multi-stakeholder, networked, global and largely virtual environment; excellent influencing and persuasive skills and personal gravitas to gain respect and build and maintain strong, credible relationships, with internal and external stakeholders at all levels; and development of customer service attitude within the program team and a focus on integrated teamwork.

 

You need to be able to use different approaches to achieve followership; to liaise with a wide range of people, both internally and externally at very senior levels (OI, Executing Affiliate and other senior organizational leaders) with credibility, tact and diplomacy; to coach on the building of strong, credible relationships with international and local NGOs, government associations, business leaders and communities; to adjust to constantly changing situations while maintaining focus on delivery and follow-through; to think strategically, work creatively, effectively and in an innovative manner; and have commitment to Oxfam’s overall aims and policies and experience of promoting women’s rights and those of marginalised people in all aspects of Oxfam’s work in Ethiopia.
