ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking an outstanding Intern to provide research, data analysis and data visualisation support to the ONE Africa COVID-19 Tracker. This is a great opportunity for a current student or recent graduate with a background in international development, economics, global health and/or political science, with a strong interest in development data. 

This position will support the policy team’s work on and with data related to the COVID-19 pandemic and its aftershocks across key development sectors in African countries (e.g health, economics, education, gender, poverty and food security). The intern will help develop new and impactful data analysis and visualisations, using tools including Python, Flourish, and Tableau. 

This is a 4-6 months paid internship based in France, reporting to the Development Data Policy Manager. 

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL

  • Conduct research and quantitative analysis of data related to the COVID-19 pandemic and its aftershocks in African countries. 
  • Find insights in data through exploratory and hypothesis-driven analysis; use these insights to tell stories through data visualisation, text and verbal communication. 
  • Succinctly summarize key trends and results from analysis for broad consumption, including for blogs.
  • Additional duties as assigned 

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

  • A masters degree (or in progress), international development, economics, political science, international affairs, or other relevant field. We may consider candidates from other backgrounds in exceptional cases where candidates have a strong data skillset and relevant experience in international development.
  • Strong quantitative analysis skills required. Experience with using Python, Tableau, and/or Flourish is strongly desired.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, and Google Suite.
  • Quick turnaround research skills—must have the ability to seek out key facts and statistics to explain complicated policy topics to a broad audience.
  • Ability to write clearly and succinctly, with a strong attention to detail.

 LANGUAGE SKILLS

Excellent written and verbal, English communications skills. Fluency in French is strongly desired. 

 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

Remote work environment at the time of hire. In-office work options available and standard office work environment in the future when appropriate to facilitate.
