OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
To contribute to the integration and strengthening of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development within WHO’s work.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
The incumbent will perform the following duties:
(1) Promote a coherent and organization-wide understanding of health in sustainable development, gender, equity and human rights across the Region
(2) Facilitate the rolling out of the Global Action Plan on Healthy Lives and Well-being in the region at the country level
(3) Develop, gain consensus and implement mechanisms for strengthening WHO and Member States’ capacity to achieve the health-related Sustainable Development Goals and monitor the implementation of relevant planned activities
(4) Coordinate EMRO’s cross-departmental and multi-disciplinary efforts on SDGs, gender, equity and human rights
(5) Manage a region-wide alignment of gender, equity and human rights approach in all programmes and workplans including organizing training and capacity building activities at the regional and country levels when required, adapting global guidance to the regional context, reviewing policies/strategies and guiding the integration of GER criteria in planning and reporting.
(6) Serve as the region’s focal point with HQ and other regions on the SDGs, gender, equity and human rights.
(7) Build strategic partnerships, networks and alliances with national counterparts, other UN agencies and other partners to harmonize recommendations on policies and strategies related to meeting the health-related SDGs.
(8) Perform any other relevant duties as assigned by the Regional Director.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Essential: Master’s degree in public health or health and human rights or other health-related sciences
Desirable:
Experience
Essential: At least seven years’ experience at the national and international levels in public health with specific focus on intersectoral linkages and coordination in health, health policy, strategic management and planning, as well as monitoring and evaluation of public health programmes.
Desirable: At least five years’ experience within the United Nations System and working with international partners. Experience in the support to very senior staff.

REMUNERATION
WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 72,637 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 1665 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
