Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.
Context:
Background Information
IOM is a leading partner in supporting the efforts of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGoS) to increase community resilience against violent extremism and prevent violent extremism amongst vulnerable groups. Assistance is focused towards capacity-building initiatives for government ministries, community dialogues and information sharing, community empowerment programming, and skills-based training. IOM’s efforts in this area are geared toward national ownership and undertaken in support of the Federal Government of Somalia’s (FGoS) National Programme for Disengaged Combatants and Youth at Risk, and in close coordination with UN and local partners.
The successful candidate will work within the Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) Unit of IOM Somalia. Under the overall supervision of the DDR Coordinator, and the direct supervision of the DDR Project Officer, provide structural support to the DDR unit. The successful candidate is expected to strengthen tracking activities system and manage programme trackers. In addition, the successful candidate will support the communication needs of the DDR unit such as producing monthly reports, analysing basic M&E date and presenting in a reporting format and providing the Programme Support Unit monthly DDR report. The successful candidate will also support the DDR outreach unit by capturing and raising visibility of programme’s best practices and lessons learned and support the government’s communication and social media engagement needs.
Supervision
The successful candidate will work under the guidance and supervision of the DDR Project Officer in close coordination and cooperation with the Programme Support Unit and other colleagues of the DDR Unit, relevant Field staff, etc.
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Support in managing programme trackers, such as procurement, finance, travel and leave trackers etc.
2. On a monthly basis, in collaboration with the field team lead the drafting of one success stories.
3. Draft and edit monthly programmatic updates and share it with PSU.
4. Work closely with the M&E officer and ensure daily operation checklist is sent, reviewed and if any inconsistencies is detected management is alerted immediately.
5. Support audit companies hired by DDR and ensure that they receive the necessary paperwork they require.
6. Take notes on DDR weekly staff meeting and share it with the team for their inputs.
7. Monitor development of Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) Countering Violence Extremism (CVE)/Preventing Violence Extremism (PVE) related issues and contribute to the development of thematic reports and policies.
8. Contribute to data collection and analysis; conduct research on relevant assigned topics; draft and/or contribute to the information sheets, presentations, training curricula and materials and thematic guidance notes on DDR/PCVE
9. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Training Components and Learning Elements
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to receive hands on project management, coordination and communication skills. He/She will be able to receive mentorship from DDR Programme Coordinator, Manager as well as DDR project staffs who have extensive experience in DDR work as well as programme management.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
Education
University degree in Political or Social Science, International Relations, International Development, Social Sciences, or a related field from an accredited academic institution.
Experience
• Master’s degree is an advantage;
• Experience and familiarity with conflict mitigation, extremism, peacebuilding, and post-conflict interventions;
• Work experience in preforming project management/admin functions;
• Work experience in technical writing, editing, and reporting;
• Advanced research, writing, outreach and communications skills;
• Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation concepts and methods;
• Strong technical writing skills in English.
Languages
Fluency in English is required.

Eligibility and Selection
In general, the Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who:
a) have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities;
b) are either students approaching the end of their studies and preparing a thesis, or recently graduated, who have less than two years of relevant working experience.
c)  Must have a Master’s Degree
