GENERAL CONTEXT

Médecins Sans Frontières is an international independent medical-humanitarian organization, which offers assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters and to victims of armed conflict, without discrimination and irrespective of race, religion, creed or political affiliation.

MSF is a civil society initiative that brings together individuals committed to the assistance of other human beings in crisis. As such MSF is by choice an association. Each individual working with MSF does it out of conviction and is ready to uphold the values and principles of MSF.

The MSF movement is built around six operational directorates. MSF OCBA is one of those directorates. The operations are implemented by field teams and the mission coordination teams; together with the organizational units based in Barcelona and decentralized in Nairobi, Dakar and Amman. The field operations are guided and supported by 5 Operational Cells, the Emergency Unit and other departments supporting operations, including the Fundraising Department.

PURPOSE OF THE FUNCTION

We are looking for a highly motivated Donor Acquisition Officer to develop and execute effective marketing programs and campaigns for mass donor acquisition.

This person should have a strong grasp of current marketing tools and strategies and be able to lead integrated marketing campaigns from concept to execution. The donor acquisition officer will work within the fundraising team, in close cooperation with communication and supporting teams, as well as vendors, to launch campaigns and develop activities on time and on budget. Reporting to the Head of Fundraising, you will play a key part in inspiring and engaging donors to connect with MSF’s work and impact.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

  • Plan and execute all off-line acquisition campaigns, to grow awareness, acquire new donors and raise funds from the Portuguese public, focusing on recruiting new regular and one-off donors, across a variety of off-line channels – including, but not limited to, Face to Face, Telemarketing, DRTV and Direct Mail, maximizing income and reducing attrition
  • Develop all content and materials with partner agencies, communications and supporting teams, this includes, but is not limited to research content, facts and statistics, copy writing, reviewing and translation.
  • Oversee annual budget to meet fundraising strategic objectives and targets
  • Measure and report performance of all acquisition campaigns against goals, to identify growth opportunities and areas for improvement
  • Optimize spend and performance based on the insights
  • Brainstorm new and creative growth strategies
  • Build and develop successful partnerships with external agencies and manage their performance, ensuring best practice across the program
  • Develop training materials in order to deliver engaging and motivating training to the partner agencies, and ensure that messages, style and tone of fundraising communications are in line with corporate identity and complement existing communications
  • Coordinate with supporting teams to ensure that all data and income generated through acquisition activity is recorded in an accurate and timely manner
  • Keep up to date with sector trends and market developments
  • Undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required in this post

SELECTION CRITERIA

Education and experience

  • BS/MS degree in marketing or a related field
  • Experience of managing a range of direct marketing, including cold and warm direct mail, email, telemarketing, and large-scale campaigns, preferably within the nonprofit sector
  • Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to manage campaigns end to end
  • Experience of budget management, including planning and forecasting
  • Experience of negotiating and managing suppliers
  • Knowledge of data segmentation and targeting of specific audiences
  • Experience in working with CRM systems, such as Salesforce
  • Excellent analysis and data interpretation skills
  • Inspiring story teller, able to convert complex research into stories that are clear and engaging, and compel donors to take action
  • An energetic self-starter who thrives on taking the initiative with enthusiasm
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Well organized and able to prioritize workload effectively
  • Outstanding written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Native level of Portuguese and advanced level of English

Salaire

CONDITIONS

  • Position based in Lisbon office.
  • Full time job.
  • 12 months contract, with possible extension depending on the evolution of the assigned portfolio.
  • Annual gross salary: HQ-2C (divided in twelve monthly payments) + Secondary Benefits based on MSF-OCBA Reward Policy.
  • Starting date: immediately
