Money Trail: Grants for African, Asian and European Journalists

Money Trail: Grants for African, Asian and European Journalists

Deadline: 14-Dec-20

Money Trail has come up with the working grant program for (teams of) African, Asian and European journalists to investigate cross-border illicit financial flows, tax abuse money laundering and corruption in Africa, Asia and Europe.

Grants are awarded to journalists solely by Journalismfund.eu, with no input or oversight at any stage from the consortium as a whole. The primary goal of this grant is to expose illicit finance, tax abuse, corruption and money laundering.

The aim of the Grant Programmes of Journalismfund.eu is facilitating investigative, cross-border and independent journalism in order to promote democracy in Europe by connecting donors and journalists without endangering the journalists’ independence. The project will be one that, in principle, could not be realised within the remit of regular journalism – a project of great newsworthiness and depth that is simultaneously original, innovative and time-consuming.

Money Trail is a collaborative project between highly regarded journalism and training organizations Journalismfund.eu, Finance Uncovered, and Free Press Unlimited and Oxfam Novib.

Why Money Trail?

Money Trail exists because countries throughout the world lose billions of dollars through tax abuse, money laundering and grand corruption. Investigative journalism is key to combatting this situation. Such work clearly can have a tremendous impact. Brilliant reporting by journalists and some notable civil society organisations has resulted in revenue authorities and enforcement agencies recovering desperately needed funds. Politicians have been forced to act.
There are so many stories all over the world yet to be told. This is your chance to help tell them.
Funding Information

The total amount per call is around 50.000 euro: this amount is distributed among different projects. The money comes from the Dutch Nationale Postcode Loterij.
What the grant money can be used for?

Grants can cover working time and out-of-pocket expenses such as travel, visa, accommodation, translation, fixers, access to pay-databases, FOI requests, legal screening, etc.
