Maersk is looking to hire a Vessel Operations Team Leader to join our team in Mombasa. The Vessel Operations Team Leader will be responsible for the day-to-day liaison between Maersk and the port/terminal operators. Ensures reliable and cost-effective port stays within assigned geography by cooperating tightly with the terminals. Proactively interacts and coordinates with vessels, terminals and clusters’ operations to drive day-to-day performance and optimal terminal operations.

Key responsibilities
 Liaises with the terminal operator to ensure the most efficient operation for incoming ML vessels
– Ensures terminal resources are allocated to ML vessels in compliance with any SLAs, and pushes for additional resources as/when necessary to ensure schedule and cost integrity,
– Conducts review of KPI’s and scorecards to ensure they are aligned LOC scorecards
– Conducts post mortem reviews of vessel calls to assess and address areas of improvement
– Conducts operations reviews and/or audits to ensure key targets are met
– Secures and relays any intelligence received from ports/terminals regarding commissioning of new land, hardware and/or investments
– Ensures ports/terminals have processes in place to handle ML vessels in a structured and efficient way
– Supports Marine Execution team in the LOC in planning and coordinate plans with the terminal
– Identifies and suggest continuous improvement possibilities in the ways of working Identifies and executes cost reductions through the SmartOps process within the team
– Sets goals for team Monitors and drives team and process performance and provide feedback
– Supports/coaches/encourages/motivates team for better performance
– Implement and manage VMS
– Assists LOC to drive cost savings and operational synergies between APMT and Inland and Seaside entities where feasible
– Actively supports and promotes HSSE requirements, standards, and initiatives to drive safety performance and culture
We are looking for
– Preferable a university degree in logistics, maritime and port, or process/industrial engineering or a marine qualification or similar level
– Minimum 3-5 years in operations roles including staff responsibility and has proven people management skills.
– Understanding of the transport industry and an ability to relate with shipping company and other associated industry managers
– Good communication skills with the ability to communicate across the organization
– Experience in cost and productivity optimization through process optimization, as well as design and implementation of new operation procedures
– Extensive understanding of modern terminal operational practices including computer terminal management systems
– Fluent in local language (where applicable) and English
– Experience in finance related matters, setting budgets and reporting against financial objectives
– Effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills
– Ability to provide leadership, obtain cooperation and assistance to meet objectives
