Invitation for Ukrainian Women Rights Organizations (WROs)

Under the Project ‘Women of Ukraine: Heard, Capable, Resilient’ undertaken with the financial support of the Global Affairs Canada Pact invites Ukrainian Women Rights Organizations (WROs) to submit proposals in response to the Annual Program Statement.

10+ Donors that believe in building NGO capacities for Civil Society Development
15+ Donors for Saving the Planet: Grants for Environment, Conservation and Wildlife
The aim of the project “Women of Ukraine: Engaged, Able, and Unbroken” is to increase the level of realization of human rights for women and girls and to promote gender equality in Ukraine.

Goals

The goal will be achieved by:

20+ Donors standing up for Human Rights and Equality
10+ International Donors seeking to improve Access to Water, Hygiene and Sanitation
20+ Global Donors for Empowering Women and Girls
25+ Donors for the Empowerment of Youth
Improvement of management systems and increase of resilience of local organizations working in the field of women’s rights (women’s rights organizations) in Ukraine, first of all organizations representing the interests of vulnerable and marginalized women and girls;
Improving the productivity of organizations in the field of program implementation and advocacy, with the aim of promoting gender equality in Ukraine;
Increasing the effectiveness of national and regional platforms, networks and alliances in order to formulate and implement gender sensitive policies in Ukraine.
Purpose and Objective

The purpose of this Program is to support initiatives by local women’s rights organizations that represent or provide services to the most vulnerable and marginalized girls and women, such as:

internally displaced girls and women and other categories of girls and women affected by the conflict in eastern Ukraine (combatants and veterans, widows and mothers of fallen soldiers)
women LBTIC
women with disabilities
women living with HIV
Roma women
rural women and girls.
Context and Justification

Alerts
Ukraine has committed itself to the implementation of key international instruments and recommendations aimed at ensuring gender equality. The country acceded to the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (PDAP) at the 4th World Women Conference (1995) and ratified key human rights treaties, including the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (1980) and its Optional Protocol, adopted the Sustainable Goals development (CSD). The EU-Ukraine Association Agreement signed in 2014 commits itself to guaranteeing equal opportunities for women and men in employment, education, training, the economy, society and decision-making.

Funding Information

The total amount of funding under the Program is 1800000,00 (one million eight hundred thousand) UAH. The maximum funding for each individual application shall not exceed UAH 180,000.00 (one hundred eighty thousand). Once the total amount of funding under the Program has been exhausted, the Covenant will formally communicate it on the Covenant website in Ukraine and through social networks.

Activities

Activities may include, but are not limited to:

advocacy efforts to enhance the realization and protection of the rights of the above categories of women and girls;
trainings for law users and those responsible for exercising rights;
community mobilization activities;
information and communication campaigns;
research;
provision of services.
Eligibility Criteria

Geographical coverage: Project activity can be undertaken in any region of Ukraine, but at the local or regional levels.
The organization complies with the definition of a local women’s rights organization provided in this Announcement, namely:
the organization is headed by a woman;
the organization is registered as non-profit on the territory of Ukraine. Please note that applications from state and / or political structures, parties, forces, religious organizations will not be supported. Grants to individuals will also not be given.
the mission of the organization is to combat all forms of discrimination against women and to ensure equal rights for women and men in all spheres of society by promoting women’s rights as human rights, advocacy (at various levels from local politics to international), education and awareness-raising, monitoring of women’s rights on the basis of international documents and national legislation and policies for its implementation, provision of services to women and girls;
the organization operates at local or regional levels;
