Immunization Advocacy Initiative: Inviting CSOs to Enhance Policies for Health and Immunization in Ghana

Deadline: 1 September 2018

Immunization Advocacy Initiative is seeking expressions of interest from Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to undertake advocacy for increased financing and enhanced policies for health and immunization in Ghana.

The purpose of this call is to identify eligible civil society organizations (CSOs) experienced in communications and advocacy to participate in a four-year initiative aimed at increasing domestic financing for immunization, and health.

The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is an international non-profit, non-governmental organization that carries out high quality, policy relevant research on population, health and education issues facing subSaharan Africa. APHRC, as lead partner, in partnership with Ghana-based West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI)–that will carry out capacity strengthening — in a multi-country project dubbed “Immunization Advocacy Initiative.” This initiative is supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and predicated on the premise that a knowledgeable and well-capacitated local network of civil society can yield stronger results towards achieving sustainable financing for immunization as a cornerstone of a strong health system.

More specifically, under this initiative, the Immunization Advocacy Initiative will support the provision of evidence, coordination, mentoring and coaching of selected CSOs to develop and implement targeted advocacy campaigns. The goal is to raise awareness among a contingent of stakeholders on the need for country ownership of the health of its own citizens by providing quality health services and increasing financing for these services in the face of dwindling external resources.
