Job PurposeUnder the direct supervision of Surge Capacity Officer and technical line management of the Surge Coordinator the intern will support surge desk at Africa Regional Office to strengthen surge database for Africa Region and the dashboard for surge by compiling and verifying data from various sources – technical units, past trainings, country and country cluster delegations, active and previous deployments to ensure data captured is in accordance with the requirements of surge management in Africa.
For the research on IFRC’s Humanitarian Response Costing / Per person cost, the intern will report and work closely with Operations Coordinators for data gathering, analysis and reporting.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Surge optimization: Surge data cleaning, verification, and maintenance:Collaborate with the Surge Capacity Officer, to ensure database for surge in Africa region is up to date and verified.
Collaborate with focal persons at each technical unit at ARO, collect, compile and verify surge data for each technical sector.Collaborate with focal persons at each technical unit to identify competency levels for surge members for each technical sector.Collaborate with focal persons at Country Delegations and Country Cluster Delegations to verify surge data for NSs.Collaborate with Surge Capacity Officer to feed data to the dashboard for Surge in Africa Region, update data regularly and add in additional features to compliment and supplement existing data and in accordance with the surge indicators reporting regionally and globally.Support surge officer and collaborate with global RRMS Manager to ensure surge database for Africa is up to date and verified.Compile various surge trainings data at one place and verify with technical focal persons and surge capacity officer.Collaborate with IM Coordinator to adapt the existing regional surge register and surge mechanisms to the competency framework. Support the migration and update of regional profiles into the new surge database, the Rapid Response Management System, to include details of all trained/competent personnel, searchable for deployment regionally and/or globally.Collaborate with IM coordinator for data analysis and visualization on the ARO dashboard for surge capacity.Support DCPRR team for research on IFRC’s Humanitarian Response Costing / Per person cost for different disaster response operations 
EducationBachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Disaster Risk Reduction, Monitoring and Assessment and other areas relevant for the assignment.
Experience2 years of relevant experience work in Social Sciences or related studies.
