Organizational ContextThe International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC or “the Federation”) is the World’s largest volunteer-based humanitarian network. The Federation is a membership organization established by and comprised of its member National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Along with National Societies and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the Federation is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. The overall aim of the IFRC is” to inspire, encourage, facilitate, and promote at all times all forms of humanitarian activities by National Societies with a view to preventing and alleviating human suffering and thereby contributing to the maintenance and promotion of human dignity and peace in the world.” It works to meet the needs and improve the lives of vulnerable people before, during and after disasters, health emergencies and other crises. The Federation is served by a Secretariat based in Geneva, with regional and country offices throughout the world. The Secretariat is led by the IFRC Secretary General and provides the central capacity of the International Federation to serve, connect, and represent National Societies. The Secretariat’s focus includes providing support to the IFRC governance mechanisms; setting norms and standards; providing guidance; ensuring consistency; coordination and accountability for performance; knowledge sharing; promoting collaboration within and respect for the RCRC Movement; and expanding engagement with partners. The Secretariat’s headquarters is organized in three main business groups: (i) Partnerships, including Movement and Membership; (ii) Programs and Operations; and (iii) Management. The Secretariat has five regional office, as follows: Americas (Panama City); Africa (Nairobi); Asia/Pacific (Kuala Lumpur); Europe (Budapest); Middle East and North Africa (Beirut). This position is based in Beira, Mozambique to support the Head of Operations and PMER Delegate in regular monitoring of activities, trainings, reporting periodic data and information from all programs.
Job PurposeUnder the direct Supervision and the guidance of the Fleet Officer, the driver will be in charge of driving the IFRC team and the materials and equipment for the programs activities and will perform as necessary miscellaneous job-related duties.Job Duties and Responsibilities1) Drive assigned vehicles according to IFRC rules and regulations 2) Regularly inspect the vehicle prior to taking it away ensuring it conforms to standard road safety measures. 3) Drive the team to various destinations 4) Help deliver communications and take on errands as they may arise 5) Ensure occupants riding assigned vehicles wear sit belts at all times 6) Ensure unauthorized riders do not ride and/or drive assigned vehicles 7) Ensure regular maintenance of assigned vehicles 8) Maintains assigned vehicles in clean, polished, flawless operating condition. 9) Visually inspects and manually tests vehicle pre-departure and before accepting passengers. 10) Maintains and operates communications devices, emergency response and contingency equipment, including fire extinguisher, flares or reflectors, etc. 11) Read and understand specific vehicle operating manual 12) Obey all traffic laws and driving rules as set by the IFRC 13) Maintain vehicle logbook up to date and with all the information required 14) Keep an inventory of the tools and accessories of the vehicles 15) Provide assistance to the recovery operations with field missions when needed 16) Provide support to Admin office for the payment of Office and Delegates house utilities bills 17) Dispatch and collect the courier and postal letters/ office documents
EducationMust have a valid driving license First Aid certificate/knowledge
Experience02 Years of working in similar position Good driving experience Experience in working with a wide range of individuals irrespective of culture and socio-economic status Working experience in Humanitarian environment
Knowledge, skills and languagesGood Knowledge in Mechanics (Able to hear and understand unusual vehicle sounds, horns, sirens and other ordinary traffic sounds and warnings) Good knowledge and Familiar with the Liberia’s traffic rules and regulations including safety signs, etc Ability to solve practical problems and react quickly and calmly to changing or emergency circumstances Ability to read and understand rules, operating and maintenance manuals, company procedures and customary travel documents Ability to drive whenever required for work purposes Being punctual Good interpersonal and communication abilityCompetencies and values
