MISSION CONTEXT:

The Prevention and Health Direction aims to make sure that the SDG 3 “Ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all at all ages” can become a reality for people with disability and vulnerable populations all along the various Nexus contexts. We focus on prevention of preventable impairments and disability inclusive health, and we work more specifically on road Safety and Safe Mobility (1 specialist), Mental Health and Psycho social support (4 specialists), Non communicable diseases (1 specialist), Sexual and Reproductive health including Family planning, HIV, Maternal, newborn and child health (2 specialists) and Disability Inclusive Policies (1 Lead).
We work in close collaboration with the other Technical Directions, namely Rehabilitation, Protection and Social & Inclusion, as well as with the 5 Geographic Directions.

DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION:

In order to develop HI’s long term vision on environmental health, with a specific focus on pandemic response, urban health and climate resilient health systems, HI is recruiting an Environmental Health Specialist (EHS), who will be responsible for providing global content leadership on issues related to environmental health, as well as providing coordination and partnerships with relevant stakeholders.

Under the supervision of the Health and Prevention Director, the Environmental Health Specialist will provide technical support to define the technical perimeter of the environmental health interventions in HI, support the development of tools and the translation of global policies and standards into practice, at national and local level, and contribute to capacity building of HI staffs at HQ and field level. The specialist will contribute to thought leadership and knowledge sharing, and support global representation and policy positioning.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

1/Ensure quality technical advice and resources to support effective programming:
-provide technical advice on how to mainstream environmental health in country operational plans and emergency appeals
-identify necessary tools and information needed by HI related to EH, and contribute to the development of new operational guidance, tools, methodologies or other materials
-provide support for effective programming including for proposal development, project design, project implementation, and monitoring and evaluation of project activities
-support the development of knowledge products and marketing materials, and the development of a dedicated internal website
-work to develop internally capacity building activities, including developing training plans and training material, as well as knowledge-sharing workshops to discuss lessons learned from projects

2/Ensure global direction, policy positioning and representation on EH:
-support internal policy development on environmental health with a special focus on pandemic response, urban health and climate resilient health system
-support senior management in their representational and positioning efforts on EH
-raise awareness of EH amongst National Societies and promote the use of such activities
-contribute to the development of HI communications campaigns and products on EH
-contribute to and coordinate HI engagement in policy dialogue related to EH
-represent HI on EH at international policy events
-effectively liaise with relevant staff within and beyond HI on relevant policy efforts

3/Promote and strengthen strategic partnerships:
-strengthen strategic partnerships on EH with external partner institutions
-nurture relations with peer organizations and participate in communities of practice and professional associations, in order to keep abreast of emerging trends and integrate best practices.

PROFILE THOUGHT:

• You have a Master degree in Public Health
• You are proficient in Disability Inclusion and Right Approach
• You have at least 5 years of experience on preparedness and response to epidemics
• You have excellent and proven familiarity with the outbreak international context with deep technical understanding of the main stakes of the disability inclusion
• You have experience in remote technical support
• You have experience in strategic and analytic thinking
• You are able to work on the implementation of complex, big financial volume and multi-stakeholders projects
• You have ability to work on complex projects in multitasking
• You have ability to work in a fast paced environment and to respect tight deadlines
• You have good synthesis skills and writing skills
• You have excellent communication skills
• You speak English and French, Spanish would be a plus
• You are able to work in a multicultural environment

JOB CONDITIONS:

• Type of contract: open ended
