Humanity & Inclusion (HI) is an independent and impartial aid and development organisation with no religious or political affiliations operating in situations of poverty and exclusion, conflict and disaster. We work alongside people with disabilities and vulnerable people to help meet their essential needs, improve their living conditions and promote respect for their dignity and fundamental rights.

Since the organisation was first founded in 1982, we have set up development programmes in more than 60 countries and responded to many emergencies. Today we have a budget of around 150 million euros, with 3500 employees worldwide.

JOB CONTEXT :

HI reopened its mission in Myanmar in 2013 after a short-term intervention during Cyclone Nargis in 2008. Since then, HI has expanded its activities promoting inclusion and responding to the needs of persons with disabilities, including landmines victims, in Ayayaerwaddy, Mandalay, Yangon, East Bago Regions as well as in Kayin, Rakhine and Kachin States. HI has signed a MoU with both the Ministry of Social Welfare and the Ministry of Health and Sport. HI has five offices, the main one in Yangon and bases in Hpa’an covering the South East, Myitkyina for Kachin, one in Sittwe for Rakhine and one in Mae Sot on the Thai border. HI’s programme strategy is built around 3 pillars:

1/ Armed Violence Reduction (AVR) including Victim Assistance and community-based Risk Education;

2/ Inclusion with projects covering: support to Disabled People Organisations and promotion of Rights; inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction, Growing Together; Disaster Safe Hospital Initiative; inclusive livelihood;

3/ Health and Rehabilitation with project covering psychosocial and physical rehabilitation.

In September 2020, with funding from USAID, HI has launched a new project titled “Improving access to Physical and Functional Rehabilitation and Livelihood services for persons with disabilities in Kachin State’’ in partnership with Myanmar Physically Handicap Association (MPHA) in selected camps and villages respectively to support persons with disabilities in need of rehabilitation services. The project aims to assess the feasibility of more sustainable procurement systems for assistive products in Kachin, to improve the mobility of targeted persons with disabilities through the provision of rehabilitation services (physiotherapy services and basic community-based rehabilitation exercises, provision of technical aids and home adaptations) and awareness of communities promoting the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities towards more inclusion of persons with disabilities in communities and to assess the barriers faced by persons with disabilities to access livelihood services and opportunities in Kachin.

YOUR MISSION:

Under the responsibility of Rehabilitation Technical Specialist, the Assistive Products (AT) Market Assessment Specialist (APMSS) leads the study design, ethical approval, data collection, recording and the reporting of this study within HI, its partner and broader stakeholders’ network in rehabilitation in Myanmar. S/he also supervises the data collection and builds the capacity of the project team on it. S/he collaborates with the HI technical unit manager, rehabilitation specialist, M&E manager and project team to ensure the optimal quality of this study.

Main responsibilities :

  • Study design and ethical approval

-You finalize qualitative and quantitative data collection questionnaire and tools aligned with the elements of market shaping.

-You support the development of on-line forms of the questionnaire and tools to facilitate the data collection done remotely.

-You conduct desk review of relevant secondary data and information relevant to the objective of this study.

-You customize the data collection tools and formats according to the type of the diverse stakeholders to be consulted;

-You ensure feedbacks and consensus from key stakeholders;

-You prepare the submission of ethical approval documents and defend its presentation

  • Quality assurance

-You support capacity building of the study team to ensure appropriate data collection and analysis

-You review the study sampling and methodology rationales as already committed in project proposal, and propose changes as needed.

-You adapt data collection tool or procedure if required

-You lead the key informant interviews and focal group discussions with the stakeholders

-You review and validate the data collected in collaboration with the project team and rehabilitation technical specialist.

  • Final study report and its dissemination

-You develop the detail report of the findings at least covering the introduction, methodology, results, discussion, conclusion and recommendation

-You organize the consultation on draft report and seek consensus from key stakeholders

-You ensure the final report is edited professionally incorporating all comments and corrections

-You esure the inputs from project team, rehabilitation technical specialist and HI rehabilitation specialist based at headquarter

You develop the project/business proposal AT to guide the local production and flourishment of AT local market in Kachin and Myanmar

-You lead the dissemination of the study findings with key stakeholders

-You support the rehabilitation technical specialist to develop the manuscript and submission of it for the publication on peer review journal, focusing on the key finding of this study.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE POSITION :

Expatriate position is expected to be done remotely from expat’s home given the covid restriction and the recent coup in Myanmar.

Expériences / Formation

  • You hold a degree in health economy
  • You have at least 2 years of experience in operational research, qualitative and quantitative methodologies on assistive technology and products
  • You demonstrated understanding of the socio-cultural issues and nuances of working in communities and with vulnerable populations
  • You have experience in both face to face and remote facilitation of research study
  • You are fluent in English

Salaire

  • 3 months International contract starting ASAP

    • Unemployment insurance benefits for EU nationals
    • Pension scheme adapted to the situation of our employees: If you already have a personal pension scheme HI will contribute at the same level of your personal monthly contribution with a maximum of 53€/month ; If you do not have a personal pension scheme, we will open a private pension account with your contribution of 272.53€/month and a contribution of HI of the same amount
    • Medical coverage with 50% of employee contribution
    • Repatriation insurance paid by HI
  • Salary from 2757 € gross/month upon experience
  • Paid leaves : 25 days per year;
