JOB CONTEXT :

HI have been intervening in Yemen on and off for the last 12 years, with its actions initially focused on development issues, notably through the support to the development of physical and functional rehabilitation services for people with disabilities (PwDs) as well as through the capacity-building of the national networks of Yemen Disabled People’s Organisations (DPOs).

 

Since 2015, HI interventions have been adapted to the current context of conflict in Yemen. With the support of different donors, HI has been supporting two hospitals and one physical and functional rehabilitation centre in Sana’a City, building the capacities of their key staff in early rehabilitation care and psychological first aid, supplying rehabilitation equipment, and directly providing functional rehabilitation care and psychosocial support to war affected people (including through the donation of assistive devices and provision of Prosthesis). In 2017, these activities have extended to new facilities in and around Sana’a.

 

In parallel, HI is implementing an inclusion and protection mainstreaming project, to increase the knowledge and capacities of the staff of International NGOs in the inclusion of the most vulnerable people in their humanitarian responses (including PwD), so as to increase their access to essential services.

 

While all HI activities have been implemented in in Sana’a governorate so far, in 2019 HI has expanded to Aden and is about to launch its activities Mokha and Hajjah.

 

The main objective of this position is to provide technical support for the implementation of three projects: one project supported by German MOFA, and two projects in consortia: one led by ACTED and one led by IOM. In these three projects HI is working with 12 international and national partners to ensure that their programming is inclusive.

 

In addition, HI is also providing technical support to 5 organizations and supporting clusters through sensitization sessions.

At a community level, HI is seeking to improve inclusion through community awareness sessions for community focal points.

 

YOUR MISSION:

Under the direct responsibility of the Technical Unit Coordinator, you are responsible for ensuring the quality of Inclusion interventions, to implement capacity building and training of the HI Inclusion team, and to ensure the integration of an inclusive approach in all other HI projects (Rehabilitation, MHPSS and Mine Risk Education). You are also responsible for providing external technical support the humanitarian community in the definition and implementation and monitoring and evaluation of inclusive practices within their emergency humanitarian responses.

 

In this part your main responsibilities are:

  • contributing to the HI Yemen mission for the Inclusion part
  • provision of inclusion technical support & expertise to HI mission
  • support humanitarian actors to strengthen their operational capacity to deliver inclusive humanitarian response
  • team management and internal coordination
  • representation & external coordination
  • reporting

 

YOUR PROFILE :

  • You hold a degree in Humanitarian Action, Development Studies, Social Sciences….An OT or PT background is an asset
  • You have a several years of experience in INGO work in emergency contexts (preferably in conflict zones) including a minimum of 2 years in project management
  • You master inclusion aspects and demonstrate a proven experience as technical advisor in Inclusion & Protection
  • You have experience in training and capacity building
  • You have the ability to work under pressure and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and diplomacy – you already worked on a remote way
  • You are fluent in English; Arabic would be an asset

 

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE POSITION:

The position is based in Sana’a in Yemen. You will also have to spend time in HI bases (Aden, Mokha and Hajjah). You may be required to spend some time in Amman, Jordan whilst awaiting your visa for Yemen, however the duration of this period will be minimised to avoid interruption to activities in Yemen.

 

In Sana’a the shared guesthouse iswell equipped with a safe room. Most of the work is done at the office but there are some possibilities to go out for work purposes and for some extra professional activities.

All movements are done by car. HI has set-up a curfew. The situation is relatively calm in Sana’a nowadays.

  • Salary from 2757€ gross/month regarding the experience of the candidate
  • Perdiem : 550€ net/month
  • Hardship allowance : 500€ net/month
