GIST Tech-I Competition 2016

GIST Tech-I Competition 2016

Are you an entrepreneur with a science and technology idea that could improve the world? If so, you need to check out the 2016 GIST Tech-I Competition which started accepting applications on December 7.

The GIST (Global Innovation through Science and Technology) competition seeks innovative approaches to problems related to the environment, water, agriculture, energy, health or space science. Citizens from 135 countries and emerging economies spanning Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Latin America are eligible.

Take a look at some of the winning ideas from past competitions, which include early fire detection systems, bicycle-powered mobile phone chargers, and green construction materials made from agricultural waste.

2015 GIST Tech-I Competition finalist Sabira Mehrin Saba turns agricultural waste into green construction material. (GIST)

GIST Tech-I helps science and technology entrepreneurs aged 18–40 advance their innovations at both the idea and startup stages with training, mentorship, networking and access to seed capital.

Up to 30 finalists will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to attend the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) in California to showcase their ideas and receive intensive training. Experts and voting by the online public will select the winners, who will receive one-on-one mentorship and training.

The competition is part of the State Department’s GIST initiative to empower young innovators around the world. 2016 GIST Tech-I winners will feature their innovations at the GES in Silicon Valley, California.
