The Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research (FFAR) is accepting applications for its Seeding Solutions Grants Program 2020.

The Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research brings together leading experts to identify and investigate the researchable questions whose answers have the potential to enhance the economic and environmental resilience of their food supply.

Challenge Areas

FFAR’s six Challenge Areas aim to solve large-scale food and agriculture problems, while understanding broad implications and impacts:

10+ International Donors seeking to improve Access to Water, Hygiene and Sanitation
20+ Global Donors for Empowering Women and Girls
25+ Donors for the Empowerment of Youth
Soil Health: The Soil Health Challenge Area enriches soil by building knowledge, fueling innovation and enabling the adoption of improved soil management.
Sustainable Water Management: The Sustainable Water Management Challenge Area increases water availability and water efficiency for agricultural use, reduces agricultural water pollution and develops water reuse technologies.
Next Generation Crops: The Next Generation Crops Challenge Area develops non-traditional crops and creates new economic opportunities for conventional crops that will increase future crop diversity and farm profitability.
Advanced Animal Systems: The Advanced Animal Systems Challenge Area supports sustainable animal systems through innovative technologies, environmentally sound production practices and advancements in animal health and welfare.
Urban Food Systems: The Urban Food Systems Challenge Area enhances their ability to feed populations through urban and peri-urban agriculture, bringing local food to these venues.
Health-Agriculture Nexus: The Health-Agriculture Nexus Challenge Area supports innovative, systems-level approaches that reduce food and nutritional insecurity and improve human health in the United States and around the globe.
Award Information

Every year, FFAR funds at least one proposal in each of their Challenge Areas, typically awarding each applicant between $300,000 and $1 million.

Eligibility Criteria

FFAR welcomes applications from all U.S. institutions of Higher Education, non-profit and for-profit organizations, government-affiliated researchers, and domestic and international organizations.
Any individual(s) with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to carry out the proposed research as Program Director(s)/Principal Investigator(s) is invited to work with his/her organization to develop an application for support.
