Organizational Setting
 The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.
FAO participates in the development and implementation of field projects in the sectors of food security, agriculture and rural development. This requires integration within the broader framework of sustainable food and agriculture that aims at increasing production and productivity, addressing climate change, managing natural resources and enhancing rural livelihoods.
The project « PROMOVE Agribiz » is financed by the European Union and jointly implemented by FAO and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ). The objective of the project is to contribute to sustainable, inclusive and broad-based economic growth and poverty reduction in the context of national food and nutrition security and climate change. The project will be implemented in the provinces of Nampula and Zambézia and the specific objectives are: i) to improve food and nutrition security and resilience of smallholders through climate-smart and nutrition-sensitive agriculture development; and ii) to enhance rural competitiveness through improved participation of smallholders and Medium, Small and Micro Enterprises (MSMEs) in economic activities, economic diversification, improved access to rural services and improved rural investment climate.
 Reporting Lines
 The Provincial Seed Specialist reports to the FAO Representative in Mozambique.
Technical Focus
 Contribute to sustainable agriculture and food security by contributing to improve the application of the seed regulatory framework and the development of capacity of local institutions, integrate the dialogue platform in the sector and support the establishment and development of local capacity for production and commercialization of good quality seed.
Tasks and responsibilities
The Provincial Seed Specialist will be responsible for the implementation of  the activities of the project related to Seed Component in the Mocuba Hub (districts of Mocuba, Namacurra and Nicoadala) province of Zambezia with emphasis on
Disseminate varieties through demonstration plots and field days, with coordination with SDAEs, NGOs, farmers associations, seed enterprises and agro-dealers;
Develop and build capacity of local seed enterprises (existing and news);
Conduct an intensive process of capacity building in seed related matters for government officials, private sector and other stakeholders
Conduct trainings on seed production to small local seed enterprises and seed growers;
Support the development services (public and private) for the production of quality declared seed inspection, and seed inspection autonomy
Support local seed production initiatives
Creation of seed demand at community level.
Produce field days at Farmers Field Schools to show demo plots and promote varieties.
Produce data of yield and location of demo plots.
Plan and coordinate seed production activities.
Ensure participation of smallholders organizations (including Farmer Field School groups/networks) in seed value chain and promote formalization of small seed multipliers and FFS involved in seed multiplication
Give technical support on selection, multiplication and maintenance of local varieties.
Participate in the provincial seed platforms involving all actors of the seed value chain
Prepare reports and other documents as required.
 CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
At least 5 years of relevant experience in in seed sector including work related to seed production and , quality control
Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish;
Working knowledge of Portuguese
