Organizational Setting
 The Regional Office for the Near East and North Africa (FAO-RNE) leads a key regional initiative – the Water Scarcity Initiative (WSI), which intends to support country in coping with one of its most striking challenge: water scarcity. With the endorsement of the Sustainable Development Goal, the WSI has focused its attention to the SDG 6.4 related to water use efficiencies and sustainable withdrawals and thus developed established a regional project dedicated to “implementing the 2030 Agenda for water efficiency / productivity and water sustainability in NENA countries 2017-2020” financed by the Swedish Development and Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and another one to set a collaborative platform on water productivity.

Reporting Lines
 Selected applicants will work under the overall guidance of the Water scarcity Initiative Delivery Manager and under the direct supervision of Chief Technical Adviser of the regional project in close collaboration with FAO Country Offices, Divisions, Strategic Programmes and external partners as required.
Technical Focus
 Stakeholder engagement and outreach in the areas of water scarcity, SDG6, water accounting, water productivity, non-conventional water, groundwater governance, value chains / food loss and waste, strategic planning, and Nexus water/food and agriculture developed in collaboration with cooperating partners, and in accordance with the FAO Strategic Framework.
 Tasks and Responsibilities
 Develop a stakeholder engagement and outreach strategy for priority topics addressed by the regional projects and the WSI; regularly update strategy/ies;
Analyze stakeholders to support the development of tailored engagement pathways for the priority topics;
Organize and manage the process of continuous exchange with stakeholders on progress, lessons, results; including through technical knowledge platforms and exchange;
participate in developing and reviewing information materials, technical papers and guidelines following the Corporate Communication  guidelines relating to and stakeholders platforms and partnerships on those topics;
assist with the appraisal of capacity building and knowledge sharing needs relating to these areas ;
participate in the design and implementation of activities aiming to increase stakeholders engagement and their awareness, ownership on selected topics (ex. water scarcity, SDG6, water accounting, water productivity, value chains / food loss and waste and Nexus water/food and agriculture) in close collaboration with RNE Communication  as requested, provide technical backstopping to related field activities;
contribute to the collection and dissemination of knowledge related to selected topics, approaches and impacts, including lessons and good practices; support global learning, exchange of information through the internet and other mechanisms;
Develop success stories for the projects in close collaboration with RNE Communication Unit.
participate in the organization and follow-up of meetings, consultations , trainings and conferences, the production of required materials, awareness activities and the provision of information and assistance to partners;
prepare content for dissemination after consultation with RNE Communication Unit  (ex. For webpage, monthly newsletter; mailing list, technical platforms; etc); Support the preparation of editing, translation, etc. of project related publications, and follow through
implement monitoring and reporting related to stakeholders engagement and outreach;
Provide any additional support to the Project Manager in the implementation of the project and other duties as assigned
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
 University Degree  in development studies, communication, Marketing or other relevant field to FAO mandate or in agriculture, food and health, human resources/development studies, or a related field;
At least five years of experience in stakeholders engagement /  outreach strategies, marketing;
Experience in coordinating knowledge sharing activities at regional levels,
Working knowledge of English and Arabic, and limited knowledge of French or other UN language

Familiarity with  FAO rules and systems
Knowledge of illustration tools/software
Proven experience in designing and organizing “topical campaigns”, events, conference

Demonstrated experience of working effectively as part of multidisciplinary team
