The FAO Representation in South Sudan is organized around three main units: Programme, Operations and Administration. The current portfolio of projects in South Sudan includes activities related to Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, Natural Resource Management and works food information systems is implemented with humanitarian, transitional and development funding. The incumbent will contribute to the country’s Programme and portfolio as foreseen in the project he/she will coordinate and be assigned. 
Reporting Lines
The National Livestock Extension Specialist works under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in South Sudan and the Head of Programmes; and under direct supervision of the Assistant FAO Rep (Programme) and technical Livestock Development Officer.

Technical Focus
The National Livestock Extension Specialist will mainly focus on•    Institutional strengthening of the national officials/institutions such as NEALCO (South Sudan chapter) for increased livestock trade facilitated and minutes filed Tracking and monitoring project budgets and procurement •    Identifying Local livestock and other products trade opportunities. •    Local public-private-partnerships (PPPs) for livestock products established and facilitated•    Supporting the MLF to develop concept papers and proposals.•    Effective communication and sharing of lessons learnt from field to office and vice versa.
Tasks and objectives to be achieved: 
•    Support the FAO Livestock Unit in liaison and coordination with the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries (MLF). The incumbent will also support and link FAO and the MLF to the Ministry of Commerce, trade and investment.
•    Support FAO and MLF in data collection and compilation on livestock trade related data; Take part in the organization and facilitation of relevant joint (FAO / MLF) workshops, events and meetings•    Support promotion of livestock trade internally also exploring opportunities for access to international / cross border livestock trade markets; work closely with the South Sudan chapter of the North Eastern African Livestock Council (NEALCO)•    Support NEALCO to institutionalize the national Livestock Marketing Council and state associations, including establishment of pastoralist associations / organizations •    Contribute to the enhancement of private sector engagement in and support to production, processing and marketing of targeted livestock products; This will include provision of support to agribusiness development for women and youth and the establishment of a national e-registry of pastoralists and farmers as a digital platform to support the provision of services to farmers and pastoralists (climate services, agronomic tips, dissemination of livestock alerts, inputs subsidies and insurance services, etc.)•    Support the MLF directorate of Investment and marketing to develop livestock sector concept papers and projects based on the Comprehensive Agriculture Development Master Plan, including through assessments, design and stakeholder consultations;•    Perform other related duties as required
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements •    University Degree preferably in Livestock and Agricultural development, policy and trade.
•    A South Sudanese National•    Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of Arabic is an added advantage.
