Danish Red Cross (DRC) is looking for an experienced humanitarian to join our global team of migration and displacement and health delegates and work to ensure that people affected by migration and displacement can live healthy, dignified and active lives.

Socio-economic crisis, climate change and related extreme weather events accelerate human migration and displacement internally and across borders. Migrants face a high number of health risks before, during and after their journeys, with access to essential health care and continuity of health care often disrupted as a result of migrating, barriers (e.g., gender, cultural, financial, social and linguistic), weak health system capacity, and damaged infrastructure, and various stressors (e.g. economic insecurity, abuse, exploitation, lack of support,)

We are looking for a candidate who can further explore these linkages between climate change, health and migration and, building on the expertise and current international programmes of Danish Red Cross, and contribute to scale up programmes and build new partnerships within these areas.

As Migration and Health global delegate advisor you will be using your skills and experience to ensure quality and further development of DRC’s approach and portfolio to migration and displacement related to health and impacts of climate change.

You will play a key role in the development of new programmes and partnerships, assist in assessments and research and support country operations in implementing projects on migration and displacement related to the linkage of health and climate change with particular focus on Africa (The Horn of Africa and Central Sahel).

Furthermore, you are to provide strategic guidance within your areas of responsibility in compliance with international standards and ensure that DRC is represented in relevant networks and international fora.

You will become a core member of the DRC global migration matrix team and contribute to the matrix teams on health and forecast based action (FBA), all in the newly established Quality and Impact Unit. The position is based at the DRC regional office in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and frequent travel within and outside the region is expected.

As a core member of the global migration matrix team, you will have a technical management line to the migration Lead at DRC HQ and a reporting line to the Head of the Quality and Impact unit. You will work closely with other migration matrix team members, as well as with the health and forecast based action matrix teams. Additionally, you are to coordinate and work with relevant colleagues in the International Department at HQ, in the African Region and beyond as needed.

Key tasks

  • Contribute to and support the defining and rolling out of DRC’s policies, strategies and guidelines for migration and displacement, health and climate change.
  • Contribute to DRC’s policy influencing, advocacy and humanitarian diplomacy efforts on migration and displacement, health and climate change impact.
  • Mapping and analysis of trends in migration and displacement related to health and climate change impact.
  • Lead the development of new programmes focusing on migration and health.
  • Contribute to resource mobilization for migration and health scale-up in Africa and beyond.
  • Support operational research in partnership with different research institutions and other partners.
  • Networking and engagement with relevant partners in the area of health in migration and displacement.
  • Support DRC country teams in the project implementation and capacity development related to health in migration and displacement as requested.
    • Document and share good practices/learning on health and climate change related to migration and displacement to support global DRC institutional learning (incl. adaptation of M&E tools).
    • Contribute to the coordination with IFRC and ICRC on migration at regional level (Africa).
    • Represent DRC in relevant external network/fora.

Expériences / Formation

  • Hold an academic degree at master level or above in a relevant field (development, global or public health) and/or equivalent field experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant international professional experience with development and management of migration and displacement programmes.
  • Demonstrated experience with health components in humanitarian programmes. Knowledge of non-communicable diseases is a strong asset.
  • Knowledge on humanitarian consequences of climate change related to health and displacement, in particular with insight into how climate change can exacerbate existing vulnerabilities.
  • Proven experience and strong skills in project management (incl. planning, monitoring and reporting) and assessments and research.
  • Strong skills in programme proposal development and related fundraising vis à vis donors.
  • Knowledge of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement is an asset.
  • Experience in capacity development of local partners, e.g. development of training materials and facilitating trainings.
  • Ability to travel frequently within and across regions for periods of 1-4 weeks, in periods up to 50 % of time.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office package.
  • Advanced written and spoken English is required; knowledge of French is a strong advantage.

Salaire

We offer

The position is located at DRC Regional office in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and is a full-time position of 40 working hours per week with frequent travel to be expected (50% of the time). It is a global position, but it is expected that the majority of the tasks will be in Africa. The position is 24 months with possibility for extension given funding availability. You will refer to the Head of Technical Quality and Impact in Copenhagen.

Salary and employment conditions will comply with Danish Red Cross’s collective bargain agreement with HK and AC and will be between DKK 41.300 – 47.600 per month incl. pension, and according to qualifications and experience.
