Dalai Lama Fellowship 2016 for Students Worldwide ($6,000 grants and more)

Deadline: Varies

Applications are open for the 2016 Dalai Lama Fellowship. Dalai Lama Fellowship is an ethical leadership and social change initiative that is driven to build a world that works for all. They do this by guiding a global network of young social innovators to deepen their effectiveness by integrating secular ethics, contemplative values and compassion.

Dalai Lama Fellows awards highly competitive, yearlong Fellowships with a project grant of up to $6,000 to students at select universities and colleges worldwide. Fellows design and launch ambitious, mentored Compassion-in-Action projects in one or more of the following areas:

  1. Enhancing understanding and cooperation across peoples and cultures;
  2. Diminishing violence and promoting peace;
  3. Helping to alleviate poverty through creative initiatives; and,
  4. Protecting the environment.

Beyond funding, the Dalai Lama Fellowship guides young people toward personal and social transformation through an ethical leadership curriculum and personalized coaching that supports the Fellow in personal development and project success.

Grants and fellowship benefits

  • The fellowship provides project grant of up to $6,000.
    • This may be used for all project-related expenses and for travel expenses to the Ethical Leadership Assembly (July 1 – 8, 2016 and again in July 2017). While the grant cannot be used as personal income, students may be allowed to use part of the $6,000 as a stipend, after consultation with the program office, if Fellowship participation precludes a student from necessary part-time employment.
