Call to Develop Investigative Projects and Public Management to Mitigate Impact of Coronavirus

 

The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) in alliance with CONNECTAS, opens this call to develop investigative projects surveilling the use of resources and public management to mitigate the impact of Coronavirus in the region.

1000 new grants and donors
The challenge of conveying relevant stories, with attractive approaches and containing information that help the public to understand each country’s attention to the sanitary, economic and social crisis, is constantly growing.

What proposals are they looking for?

Revealing topics that inspect the use of public resources associated with mitigating the pandemic
Projects that disclose public management and exceptional measures implemented in the midst of the pandemic and hold the powerful accountable. Or that identify gaps in official information regarding the reality of the pandemic and/or its effects
Selected proposals will be developed with CONNECTAS under an Editorial alliance. You will receive personalized support from an editor of Editorial Board, who will assist you from the beginning of the project until the story is published.
Funding Information

Funds will be allocated according to the project’s budget and scope, as per the following categories:

Local impact: Up to US$ 1,500
National impact: Up to US$ 3,000
Two or more countries: Up to US$ 4,500
Conditions

Admitted proposals will have full editorial freedom regarding the story.
Proposals can be submitted individually or as a team.
Selected proposals will accept the terms of republishing of the research material, editorial accompaniment, safety conditions to follow-up on topics and preparations for final dissemination.
Budgets must include resources for biosecurity elements intended to protect the team working on the story.
Publications must include audiovisual and multimedia elements or storytelling developed by the team.
Projects will have a maximum execution term of up to five months from the moment of acceptance of the initial feasibility, while administrative arrangements for the first disbursement are conducted.
Eligibility Criteria

Deadline Free Grants
This call is aimed at journalists who work independently or with media outlets in: Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, Paraguay, Panama, Venezuela, Cuba, Haiti, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, the Bahamas, Belize, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Suriname.
Being a freelance journalist or in media outlets with minimum three years’ experience.
Actively working in some of the countries to which this call is aimed.
Include links to recent published stories, preferably articles, in-depth investigations or reports.
Submitted applications will only be accepted via the platform of Matrix CONNECTAS.
Applicants cannot have an ongoing scholarship with the ICFJ or CONNECTAS.
