EEG will commission rigorous applied research projects that aim to shed light on the relationship between COVID 19 and power systems in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.
The following is a list of potential areas of research. It is not an exclusive list however and proposals to explore other relevant are welcome. In each case the principle purpose of the proposal must be to learn lessons from the COVID pandemic that would be applicable to future power supply planning, operation, and maintenance.
The importance of functioning power supplies in underpinning populations’ resilience to pandemics such as COVID.
The impacts of COVID 19 on the resilience and functioning of power systems
Changes caused by the COVID 19 pandemic that could either hamper or provide opportunities to increase the rate of decarbonisation of power systems in the future
Methodological Specifications

Applicants are required to describe the proposed research design and methodological approach.
Note: The methodological design will be reviewed by a panel including leading experts in the field. Where applicable, EEG expect proposals to explain the impact of travel and social isolation on the feasibility of the methodological approach, and the steps that will be taken to overcome these challenges.
