 Job Description:Our banking client is currently recruiting a Chief Executive Officer for their investee company.  The vacancy exists for a CEO with the institutional expertise, technical, managerial, and strategic abilities to drive the alternative energy project.  The successful candidate is required to drive the project to commercial operations on time and within budget as well as drive ongoing operations in accordance with the Project and finance documentation. He or she will lead the business and management team, implement, and drive the Company’s business plan as approved by the Board and ensure compliance within the company’s operations. Responsibilities:Ensure the Company continues to provide a competitive return to the shareholders as agreed and envisaged, preserving the business to service its debt by ultimately delivering the required energy to the utility.Manage and lead a high-performance executive management team, whilst preserving and fostering an internal culture for service delivery and attaining set goalsEnsure the business operates to the highest international standards of governance, ethical standards, and transparency.Define and oversee the implementation plan for the strategic objectives as agreed by the Board or the Shareholders.Develop a positive reputation with the government, and other relevant stakeholders, as well as shareholders, lenders, suppliers, contractors, and other partners in Djibouti on behalf of the company.Identify, develop, and maintain the strategic relationships required for the successful running of the Company.Drive revenues and returns expectations.Keep the Board fully informed.Oversee all the affairs of the Company.Initiate and drive implementation of corporate policies required for the construction of the Project and operations of the Company.Manage and work closely with stakeholders to resolve issues, overcome barriers to success and improve financial and operational performance
Competencies:Strategic thinking – the ability to define, communicate and execute the business plan for the Company, with strong relationship management skills.Sector knowledge – a demonstrable understanding of the energy sector, its drivers of value, risks, and opportunitiesTechnical prowess – demonstrate technical knowledge and ability especially in the area of wind energy production and overall energy value chain. Some prior experience of developing and running wind farms will be beneficialAfrica experience – ideally an African, the successful candidate will have spent a substantial proportion of his/her working life operating across Africa and will have both a passion for the Continent and its future prosperity as well as an innate understanding of its diverse cultures and ways of doing business.Planning skills – He/she should have the ability to translate, develop and establish goals and specific short- and long-term targets that are achievable and realistic in the context to achieve shareholder objectives, preserve the business for lenders and ultimately deliver a competitive return on the shareholders risk capitalFunctional skills – the CEO will have substantial P&L and operational management experienceEntrepreneurial outlook – the CEO will combine the rigour and process of a company with a diverse range of international investors looking for a competitive return on capital and the entrepreneurial attitude associated with a start-up. This is with exceptional negotiation skills.Stature and credibility – the CEO will ideally have an established reputation in the energy sector in Africa and will have the gravitas and interpersonal skills to be able to operate at senior levels in the private sector and up to senior governmental level in the public sector across Africa, which will be very critical in the Djiboutian context.Communication skills – the CEO will be a compelling communicator both orally and in writing. He/she should be able to concisely articulate complex arguments and ideas.Leadership qualities – the CEO should be an experienced people manager, able to set and communicate direction, build highly effective and motivated teams, and operate an efficient business. He/she will be culturally sensitive, politically savvy, and able to lead multicultural teams as well as manage diver relationships and stakeholders. Requirements: Qualification and Skill
EducationA strong first degree in engineering/economics/finance or suitable other qualification from a recognised universityAppropriate financial certification or preferably a relevant advanced degree e.g. an MBA or a master’s degree in Finance
ExperienceA qualified professional with specialist industry experience at top management (C-level)At least 12 years cognate experience, 10 years or more of which should be in top management level at an independent power plant or energy firmEntrepreneurial with technical and execution expertise and Experience with board membershipsInfrastructure finance experience is a plus
LanguageFluency in writing and speaking English and French is mandatoryOther languages – Arabic would be desirable
