Applications are open for The Medtronic Healthy Communities Fund to help small organisations to build their organisational skills, knowledge and resources and to build their capacity by investing in the areas of:

  1. Partnership Development: Funding can be used for seeking, developing, defining and supporting new partnerships.
  2. Networking: Funding can be used to help applicants expand their professional network and links to other organisations in the sector.
  3. Planning: Funding can be used to research, develop or improve long term organisational plans.
  4. Communications: Funding can be used to build on applicants’ communication practices & policies and to build awareness of NCDs with a view to improve community health.

The Medtronic Foundation focuses on expanding access to quality chronic disease care among underserved populations worldwide, as well as supports health initiatives in communities where Medtronic employees live and give.

The purpose of the Medtronic Healthy Communities Fund is to promote health at community levels, especially for those who have been traditionally at risk for noncommunicable disease (NCDs) or underserved by existing related healthcare services.

Objectives

  • Access – To ensure equitable access to healthcare services for those with noncommunicable diseases in alignment with Healthy Ireland.
  • Health Promotion – To intervene around the conditions that serve as metabolic indicators of chronic diseases.
  • Health Equality – To address the social determinants of health.

Funding Information

Capacity Building Grants of up to €5,000 are being offered to not-for-profit organisations who are working to improve local community health.

Eligibility Criteria

  • In order to apply, applicants must meet all of the below requirements:
    • Their organisation must be not-for-profit
    • Their organisation’s Mission Statement, Constitution, or Memorandum and Articles of Association must have a health focus
    • Their organisation’s annual income must be less than €500,000 (average of the last 3 years)
    • Their organisation must have its own organisational bank account
    • At least some of their organisational activity must be aligned with one of the stated Fund Objectives – e.g. Access, Health Promotion or Health Equality around Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) – cardiovascular diseases, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases and diabetes
    • Their organisation must work with underserved communities or in deprived regions
      • For example as identified by RAPID or Pobal HP Deprivation Indices
    • Their application must clearly state how the Capacity Building Grant would be spent and what their outputs and outcomes will be.
      • Through Interim and Outcome Reports, they will be asked for quantitative details where possible, e.g. outputs might include data points such as # of training courses attended, # of new partnerships established etc. while outcomes might include data such as % improved self-reported well-being, self empowerment behaviours, % behaviour change (confidence, knowledge), # regulations / policy adopted / changed, etc.
      • Please indicate if any of the outcomes listed are anticipated to be achieved at some point beyond the program end date of November 2019. their organisation will not be asked to report on outcomes beyond the one-year time frame of this grant period
  • Priority will be given to:
    • Applications that most closely meet the criteria and Fund Objectives
    • Applications that include a ‘Partnership Development’ plan to engage and collaborate with another not-for-profit group on a common health project within the next year
    • Applications clearly demonstrating the potential benefit of the capacity building investment and how this increased organisational capacity will improve the health of the community
    • Applications that include clear Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and demonstrate measurable outputs and outcomes on community health
    • Applications that demonstrate the organisations’ track record in making a positive impact on community health.
