The Alternate ROOTS is seeking applications for its Solidarity Fund 2.0 program to provide one-time grants to individual artists, cultural workers, and small arts organizations in the US South experiencing financial emergency or hardship specifically related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Solidarity Fund 2.0 is made possible through funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and collaboration with the Intercultural Leadership Institute (ILI), which includes First Peoples Fund, National Association of Latino Arts & Cultures (NALAC), PA’I Foundation and Sipp Culture. This cohort of partners seeks to support arts and culture leaders and organizations of colour, across diverse regions of the country, who typically fly beneath the national radar and national arts funding.

With the Solidarity Fund 2.0, the Fund aims to be radical in approach to sharing the collective financial resources that as an organization steward. The Fund can support as many artists, cultural workers, and small arts organizations as possible. To that end:

The ROOTS asks that everyone requests the funds they need to stabilize while being mindful of applicant’s neighbours and the fact that are a community experiencing a global crisis.
As a starting point, the suggested range for individual artists is $500-$5000, and $5000-$20000 for organizations.
Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to apply for the Solidarity Fund 2.0, All of the following must be true for applicants:

Artists/Cultural Workers:
Individual artist or cultural worker living in Arkansas, Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia.
18 years or older.
Have experienced an unexpected financial emergency or hardship specifically related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Organizations:
Must be a small arts organization existing in Arkansas, Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia.
The organization must have an annual operating budget under $250,000.
The organization experienced an unexpected financial emergency or hardship specifically related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
ROOTS seeks to support increased participation of youth, TGNCNBI2-S (Transgender, Non-Conforming, Nonbinary, Intersex, and Two-Spirit), Indigenous and First Peoples, Latinx, and disability communities in the South.
Preference will be given to submissions centered around and created by members of these communities.
How to Apply

Please fill out one of the applicable forms, which they have kept as simple as possible.
If necessary, applications may be filled out by friends or family on behalf of someone else with their consent.
