ACTED recruits 01 Junior EU Aid Volunteer / Project Development

With a team of 4,600 national staff 400 international staff, ACTED is active in 37 countries and implements more than 500 projects a year reaching over 11 million beneficiaries. The EU Aid Volunteers initiative provides opportunities to European citizens and long-term residents, from a wide range of backgrounds and with a diversity of skills and professional experience, to get involved in humanitarian aid projects, support the provision of needs based humanitarian aid in third countries and engage in volunteering opportunities, through deployment. ACTED opened its mission in Myanmar in 2008 to respond to humanitarian needs following Cyclone Nargis. In the field, ACTED’s teams respond to both natural disaster situations and the special needs regarding internal conflicts in the country. ACTED works with the most vulnerable populations through emergency relief and disaster risk reduction projects, livelihood support and vocational training programmes, as well as post-conflict reconciliation projects. Mission context Home of more than 53 million people, Myanmar faces a combination of disasters, both natural and man-made. The country is vulnerable to natural hazards including cyclones, earthquakes and flooding. It is one of the countries most affected by climate change. Historically, Myanmar has been affected by internal conflict. Although the country began transitioning to a democratic government in 2011, conflicts persist throughout Myanmar. Most recently, conflict broke out in Northern Rakhine State in, causing over 600,000 people to flee their homes to Bangladesh and many more people are still displaced within Northern Rakhine. Populations in both Northern and Central Rakhine are facing increased restrictions or no access to basic services and food. 26% of the population lives in poverty, a number which is twice as high in rural areas, where 70% of Myanmar’s population lives. However, great improvements have been made in Myanmar recent years, including a 30% decrease in the rate of poverty between 2009 and 2015. The continued commitment of the international community in support to the development and humanitarian action of Myanmar remains key. Since starting operations in Myanmar in the aftermath of Cyclone Nargis, ACTED has successfully implemented over 75 projects. The NGO has a strong history of response to natural disasters, implementing emergency relief projects, livelihood support programs, disaster risk reduction, technical vocational training and peacebuilding programs for the most vulnerable populations. ACTED has expertise in water, sanitation, and hygiene programs in the country and continues to provide cash-for-work in vulnerable and conflict-affected areas. Today, ACTED supports the population in this period of political, economic, and social transition by supporting civil society organizations to ensure efficient governance, increasing resilience and responding to disasters, and supporting inclusive and sustainable human and economic development. The apprenticeship for this position will be based in ACTED’s HQ in Paris, France. During the apprenticeship the Volunteer will be managed by a line manager from the Project Development department, where there we will be interacting with departments within ACTED HQ and with field missions.

| Salaire / Indemnité | EU Volunteer benefits include: subsistence allowances in line with EU Aid Volunteer daily allowances (675.69 euros per month in France, 414.5 euros per month in Myanmar), coverage of all accommodation during apprenticeship in Paris, and in ACTED guesthouse when in the field, travel costs (return flight from Myanmar), a luggage allowance of 50 kg, provision of medical, repatriation, and life insurance, reimbursement of visas and vaccinations costs and resettlement allowance (100 per completed month of deployment).
Learning opportunities This program places great importance on the EUAV management and career development. The selected volunteers will undertake a learning and development program that will include an induction, trainings during the deployment and a post-deployment support and dissemination activities. Their learning and development plan will be completed with the support of a L&D manager, a mentor and their line manager.
