The small grants component aims to support civil society action on the ground in implementing the Women, Peace and Security agenda and focuses on three of the four pillars of the WPS agenda:

  • participation – ensuring women’s equal participation in the decision-making process;
  • protection – protecting and promoting the rights of women in conflict affected situations;
  • prevention – preventing conflict and all forms of violence against women in conflict and post conflict situations.

Women’s Roles In Governments

  • With the promulgation of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Government Act of 2079, this category aims to strengthen women’s presence and capacities in tehsils, local and provincial decision-making bodies. Organizations must be able to demonstrate how project implementation can lead to women’s meaningful participation, and increase capacities to address Women, Peace and Security concerns.
  • The proposed initiative must:
    • Articulate the tools that will be used to engage local and provincial leaders;
    • Develop clear training framework for capacity training;
    • Interventions must address context specific Women, Peace and Security concerns; for example implementation of laws and policies addressing the prevalence of child marriages and/or honour killings;
    • Have local and provincial leaders as the key beneficiaries.

Community Mechanisms for PVE

  • This category will help to strengthen women’s roles in the prevention of violent extremism (PVE) in their communities. Organizations must be able to develop a framework that will mobilize women as the first responders of violent extremism threats, as well as create gender responsive re-integration and rehabilitation methodologies for returnees.
  • The proposed initiative must further:
    • Identify points of tension within outlined community;
    • Demonstrate methodology of strengthening women’s leadership roles in the context of violent extremism
    • Address context specific Women, Peace and Security implementation challenges;
    • Have identifiable key beneficiaries.

Digital Technologies

  • This category recognizes the gendered impact of digital technology, and alms to support increased visibility of women in the digital world. From the digital inclusion of women and the use of Internet platforms to advocate for gender equality, the spread of online harassment and hate speech against women continues to persist.
  • Organizations must be able to demonstrate how proposals will change the prevailing negative narratives of women in online spaces, and galvanize the potential for digital technology as a tool for Women, Peace and Security.
  • The proposed initiative must further:
    • Demonstrate clear link of how digital technology can be invoked to address WPS concerns;
    • Explore how identified technology can effectively bring forth women’s voices in the public discourse;
    • Have key beneficiaries of the project at both local and national levels.

Grant request should be between USD $5,000 – USD $ 10,000.

Eligibility Criteria

CSOs who demonstrate competency in the following areas are eligible to apply:

  • Legal Status: logo/ status in Pakistan.
  • Mandate, policies and governance: CSOs that are under a not-for-profit mandate, have a clear organizational structure and share UNDPs principles of human development, particularly the principles of equality and non-discrimination;
  • Constituency and external support: Clear constituency and proof of partnerships with other CSOs, private sector or governments;
  • Capacity for Project Management: Technical, managerial, administrative and financial capacity to implement the project.
