Org. Setting and Reporting

This position is located in the Regional Office for West and Central Africa (ROSEN) of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in Dakar, Senegal. The Programme Coordinator (Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants) will work under the direct supervision of the Regional Representative, ROSEN, and the technical guidance of the Senior Law Enforcement Expert, based in Dakar.

Competencies

• Professionalism: Has good knowledge and understanding of theories, concepts and approaches relevant to strategy development, project and staff management and fundraising.

Has solid knowledge and understanding of the mandates of UNODC and UN mandates with a focus on transnational organised crime, human trafficking and migrant smuggling. Has good analytical and problem-solving skills, including ability to identify and contribute to the solution of problems/issues; has sound judgment skills.

Shows pride in work and in achievements; demonstrates professional competence and mastery of subject matter; is conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results; is motivated by professional rather than personal concerns; shows persistence when faced with difficult problems or challenges; remains calm in stressful situations.

Education

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in criminology, social science, international relations, political science, law, public administration, management or related field is required. A first-level university degree in similar field in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience

A minimum of seven years of relevant professional experience in project management, monitoring and formulation, donors’ relations and fund raising mechanisms is required. Experience in crime prevention and criminal justice at national and international levels and/or in trafficking in persons and/or smuggling of migrants related-areas is also required. Work experience in a United Nations field mission is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Good knowledge of French is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
