 Contract length: 12 months
The role
The post holder will provide support and technical advice to all health programmes within the region in order to develop, strengthen and review health supply chains. With regular visits to field sites, the individual will actively capacity build and empower CO pharmacists and logisticians in the safe and effective management of medicines and healthcare products.
Qualifications and experience
•Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent Pharmacy qualification
Essential
•Several years’ experience in working with pharmaceutical supply chains in fragile contexts.
•Experience of working in the medical NGO sector in West and Central Africa, within complex/large scale country programmes and in emergency response environments.
•Experience in Medical procurement including forecasting, quantification needs and preparing demands.
•Experience in conducting pharmacy, logistics or health assessments / audits.
•Experience in managing a medical warehouse and warehouse staff.
•Experience of working with agencies and coordination groups in a humanitarian setting.
•Experience in capacity building and mentoring clinical and logistic staff.
•Experience working with key institutional donors including ECHO, Global fund, USAID/OFDA.
Desireable
•Experience in Public Health relating to Essential Medicines or National Drug Policies
•Experience in the pharmaceutical industry or a drug regulatory agency in quality assurance.

The role
Early warning, including the Household Economy Analysis (HEA) and the PREGEC regional system as well as nutritional outcomes are key pillars of Save the Children’s Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL) Strategy.
The Food Security and Livelihoods Advocacy Advisor is responsible for supporting development and implementation of Save the Children FSL advocacy strategy in West and Central Africa at the regional level.
The post holder will contribute to these FSL thematic areas, working closely with relevant Technical Advisers, Programme Managers and the Advocacy Department. He/she will ensuring evidence is generated and documented. The position holder will actively engage with regional consortia as well as, regional institutions (ie AGRHYMET) and initiatives (Cadre Harmonisé, AGIR, PREGEC) and contribute meaningful participation at key regional and global events and fora.
Qualifications and experience
•Experience of developing and implementing policy and advocacy programming for food security and livelihoods, with a track record of influencing successfully ideally both in advanced and in developing countries;
•Significant understanding of advocacy in the context of NGOs, understanding of advocacy in different contexts (especially developing countries), with different types of stakeholders (e.g. UN, governments, etc) and understanding of international advocacy;
•Good knowledge and demonstrated understanding of early warning (i.e. CH and IPC), food security, Household Economy Analysis (HEA) and nutrition issues, especially in West Africa; Superior written communication skills, including the ability to translate complex arguments into accessible English for a non-specialist audience that will have political cut-through, and the ability to write articles that would be published in the mainstream press;
•Proven experience working effectively in coalitions/networks of civil society organizations;
•Excellent verbal communication skills, appropriate for high-level external international representation;
•Good understanding of the external advocacy environment and ability to assess trends and developments likely to affect advocacy;
•Commitment to Save the Children’s mission, values and approach;
•Experience of effective team work and outstanding inter-personal communication skills;
•Fluent in French and English
